DESCRIPTION +

CLASSIC FABRIC BIN

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3/4 yd Home Dec fabric, main color
  • 3/4 yd cotton fabric or Home Dec, coordinating color or same
  • 2 1/2 yd Interfacing Foam, 20" wide
  • 1 yd webbing
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Clear plastic ruler
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using a rotary blade, mat and ruler, cut the following out of the main fabric, lining fabric and foam interfacing: (2) 17"x 11" for the sides; (2) 13"x 11" for front & back; (1) 13"x 17" for the bottom.
  2. Zigzag stitch around all sides of fabric pieces if it tends to fray.
  3. Machine bastefFoam to wrong sides of main fabric
  4. Cut webbing in half for two 18" handles.
  5. Baste webbing in place on the RS of front and back pieces. Center. Ends of webbing are matched with raw edge of piece
  6. With main fabric/foam pieces: Sew sides to front and back stopping 1/2" from the bottom.
  7. Press seams open.
  8. Sew bottom to sides, from and back; pivoting at the corners.
  9. TIP: keep the sides on top as you sew on the bottom.
  10. Trim the foam close to stitching; trim corners.
  11. Repeat with lining; leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
  12. With RST, sew lining to basket around the top.
  13. Turn bin RS out and press.
  14. Stitch closed the opening in lining bottom
  15. Edge stitch top.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd Home Dec fabric, main color
  • 1/2 yd cotton fabric or Home Dec, coordinating color or same
  • 1 yard Interfacing Foam, 20" wide
  • Leather piece 12"x 1 1/4"
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Clear plastic ruler
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using a rotary blade, mat and ruler, cut the following out of the main fabric, lining fabric and foam interfacing: (2) 14"x 10" for the sides; (2) 10"x 10" for front & back; (1) 14"x 10" for the bottom.
  2. Zigzag stitch around all sides of fabric pieces if it tends to fray.
  3. Machine baste Foam to wrong sides of main fabric.
  4. Mark quilting lines on main fabric in a 1" grid. Stitch along lines to create simple square quilting design
  5. Cut leather strap to measure 1 1/4"x 11". Position strap on one front piece. Baste in place along sides.
  6. With main fabric/foam pieces: Sew sides to front and back stopping 1/2" from the bottom.
  7. Press seams open.
  8. Sew bottom to sides, from and back; pivoting at the corners.
  9. TIP: Keep the sides on top as you sew on the bottom.
  10. Trim the foam close to stitching; trim corners.
  11. Repeat with lining; leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
  12. With RST, sew lining to basket around the top.
  13. Turn bin RS out and press.
  14. Stitch closed the opening in lining bottom

TALL ROUND FABRIC BASKET

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 yds main color, cotton fabric, flannel or home dec
  • 2 yds coordinating or same fabric for lining
  • 2 yds Interfacing Foam, 20" wide
  • 1 yd twill tape color to coordinate
  • 1 yd webbing
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Clear plastic ruler
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using a rotary blade, mat and ruler, cut the following out of the main fabric, lining fabric and foam interfacing: (1) 17" circle for the bottom; (1) 53"x 21" for the sides (foam will only be 20" wide)
  2. Press under 1/2" along the top long edge of the exterior fabric, the 53" side.
  3. With RST, pin circle bottom of main fabric to side rectangle. Start stitching 1" from fabric side edge, and sew all the away around until you reach the other side. Clip basket shell where necessary, clipping the curved seam.
  4. Stitch center seam.
  5. Turn right side out. Press.
  6. Center Twill tape along the center of the Natural Cotton webbing. Topstitch twill into place along both sides. Cut webbing/twill tape in half to make two 18" handle pieces.
  7. Baste the two handle pieces in place on opposite sides of the outside exterior fabric basket shell.
  8. Repeat steps 2, 3, 4 & 5 with lining fabric. EXCEPT press under 3/4" along the 53" length top edge of lining.
  9. Trim 1/2" from foam around the edges of the bottom circle.
  10. Insert foam into the exterior fabric basket shell. First the bottom circle and then the sides. Adjust for fit.
  11. Insert lining into the basket shell, wrong side to foam. With upper edges even, pin basket shell, foam and lining together. Baste. Edge stitch around top edge. Adjust lining inside basket for a neat fit.

FABRIC BOX WITH LID

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3/4 yd main color, cotton fabric
  • 3/4 yd coordinating or same fabric for lining
  • 1 3/4 yd Stiff Interfacing, 20" wide
  • Paper, pencil & ruler for making pattern
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Create pattern for box bottom: On paper, draw a box 19"x 25". Cut out 5 1/4" square from each of the four corners. This is the pattern for the box bottom measuring 14"x 8"x 5".
  2. Place pattern on main/exterior fabric. Trace and/or pin. Cut.
  3. Repeat for the lining and interfacing.
  4. Fuse Stiff Interfacing to main fabric following manufacturers directions.
  5. Press the edges of lining 3/4” to the wrong side. Press the edges of the exterior fabric 1/2” to the wrong side.
  6. With the pressed edges unfold stitch each corner with 1/4” seam allowance. Start at inside corner and stitch to top. Turn right side out and push out corners.
  7. Sew the lining corner the same way with a 3/8" seam. Leave sewn lining wrong side out.
  8. Place the lining inside the exterior. Fold the top edges of both pieces back down along the creased you made in step 5.
  9. Use clips or clothes pins to hold the exterior and lining together. Aligning each of the seams. Topstitch around this edge, using a 1/8" seam allowance.
  10. Shape the bin by finger creasing the 4 bottom edges and the corners.

  11. Create pattern for box lid:
  12. On paper, draw a box 12 1/4"x 18 1/4". Cut out 1 3/4" square from each of the four corners. This is the pattern for the box top, measuring 1/4" larger than the bottom.
  13. Repeat Steps #2-10 to create box lid.

HEXAGON TRINKET TRAY

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/4 yd main color, cotton fabric
  • 1/4 yd coordinating or same fabric for lining
  • 1/4 yd lightweight interfacing, 2" wide
  • Leather for accent (optional)
  • Fabric glue for attaching leather (optional)
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. To print the pattern, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above). On paper, extend Hexagon pattern on all sides by 1 1/2" to create a 4 1/2" hexagon.
  2. Use this new pattern to cut out exterior fabric, coordinating lining and interfacing.
  3. Attach interfacing to exterior fabric following manufacturers instructions.
  4. With RST pin exterior fabric to lining. Stitch around all sides in a 1/4" seam leaving an opening for turning.
  5. Clip corners to reduce bulk. Press. Turn. Push out corners. Press making sure opening is folded in.
  6. Topstitch around all sides, finishing and closing opening.
  7. Crease each point to form sides. Fold together and stitch a seam from bottom to top. Repeat for the other 5 points.
  8. Cut leather 4"x 1/4". Use liquid stitch to attach the leather strips on outside along the stitching line between points.

  • 1/4 yd coordinating or same fabric for lining
  • 1/4 yd light weight interfacing, 20" wide
