SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Four 10" square canvases
  • Paint: light pink, medium pink, teal, yellow
  • Medium flat paint brush
  • Water/Paper towels for clean up
  • Large Embroidery Needle
  • Scissors
  • Yarn (Yellow, Light Pink, Teal, Ombre)
  • Black Sharpie

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Each canvas will have a separate letter, paint each letter in the center of the canvas:
  2. M = teal
    O = yellow
    M = light pink
  3. Paint a heart in the middle of the last canvas in medium pink.
  4. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly and apply additional coats as needed.
  5. Once the paint is dry, add small, shaped icons to the white portion of the canvas with a sharpie marker. The M has triangles, the O has circles, the second M has upside down triangles, and the heart has circles. Fill in some of the shapes and leave some as outlines to add interest.
  6. Thread the embroidery needle with yarn. Cut off a piece approximately 2-3' and knot the end.
  7. Starting at the back of the canvas, poke up through the canvas along the edge of the painted letter with your needle pulling the yarn until the knot is secure to the back of the canvas. Create an embroidered detail by making lines and crosses across the letters to add interest. Use the yellow yarn on the teal M, the pink yarn on the yellow O, the teal yarn on the light pink M, and the ombre yarn on the heart. Use the photo as inspiration or make your own designs.
  8. When finished, knot the yarn in the back to secure and cut off any excess.

JOANN Hacks:

  • Make sure you do not pull the yarn too tightly when embroidering or it will cut into the canvas material.
