SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Clear plastic cups
  • Assorted small leaf artificial greenery, including twigs
  • Mini pinecones
  • Small bags of small pine chips & assorted mosses
  • Small plastic animals
  • Small wooden doll
  • Small bottles of acrylic paint: white, gold, silver
  • Small paintbrush
  • Square cork coasters
  • X-Acto® knife
  • Quick grip glue
  • Fine light blue glitter
  • Fine white glitter
  • Scraps of 4-H fabric or any cotton fabric
  • Wire cutters
  • Jute twine
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Select a few small plastic animals and paint them with the holiday colors: white, gold or silver. Let them dry.
  2. Place the plastic cup face down on the square cork and trace around the rim of the cup onto the cork.
  3. Design each scene starting with the ground first. Place the quick grip glue on the cork surface and apply glitter, pebbles or small pine chips for the ground.
  4. Decide where you want to place the animal and them design the background around the animal.
  5. For a wooden doll, cut a small cape like piece of 4-H fabric and glue it around the doll. Then glue the doll onto cork coaster and glue material around the wooden doll to make it appear more nestled in the scene. Use wire cutters to snip the small pieces of greenery to the right size to fit underneath the plastic cup.
  6. Once the scene is designed and completed, use the X-Acto knife to make a hole in the center of the top of the plastic cup. Cut a 6" piece of jute and fold it in half. Thread the middle of the loop through the hole from the inside of the plastic cup and tie a knot so that it won't slip through the hole. Place a small glue line around the base of the plastic cup and adhere the cup to the cork coaster. Once the cork coaster dries, use the X-Acto knife to trim off the excess cork around the base of the plastic cup.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
  • Be careful when using the X-Acto knife to cut the hole in the top of the plastic cup for the knotted loop. Don't make the hole too big or the knot will slip through the hole.
