Beginner 3-5 Hours

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Curtain fabric, length of window from top of rod to desired length plus 5 1/2".
  • Lining fabric, 4 1/2" less than the fabric
  • Curtain rod
  • Pencil, paper
  • Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS:

All seams are 1/2" unless stated. If you aren't going to line the curtain, omit any instruction to linings.
  1. Measure the desired length of cafe curtain, add 3 1/2" at the top for the rod to pass through and 2" for the hem. Measure the lining length the same as the curtain minus the 3 1/2". Depending on the width of the rod you may need to add more than 3 1/2". Trim off 3" off the lining side seams (the lining will be smaller than the curtain).
  2. Sew with a straight stitch, the hem of the curtain with a 2" hem turning under 1/2". Sew the lining with a 2 1/2" hem, turning under 1/2". Sew side seams the curtain and lining together. The lining will be 3 1/2" shorter at the top than the curtain. The hem of the lining will be 1" shorter than the hem of the curtain.
  3. At the top of curtain, the lining will be 3 1/2" shorter than the curtain. That is the fold line to make a casing for the rod to pass through. Pin lining to the fold line of the casing, turning down the 3 1/2". Sew a casing with a straight stitch to finish.
