SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 wood signs (varying sizes, 1 for name & 1 for seating chart)
  • Unfinished wood letter
  • Cotton string
  • Wood beads (assorted sizes and shapes)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Gold paint marker
  • Eraser
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Embroidery floss (2 coordinating colors to wedding palette)
  • Chalk paint (for background color on wooded signs)
  • Acrylic paint (for flowers, foliage & lettering)
  • Brushes (various sizes, detail & large flat brush)
  • Water & paper towels for clean up

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Paint the base colors of each sign. Let dry.
  2. While the base coats are drying, string the wooden beads onto the cotton string in an alternating/abstract pattern. One strand will be solid beads and one will have knots to allow spacing between the beads. The lengths will depend on how you want the strands to drape, make them long enough to drape and also hang down the side. Set aside.
  3. Trace the layout of the wording and designs onto the painted signs lightly with pencil.
  4. Paint the design elements and wording onto the signs with a detail brush and coordinating paint.
  5. Using a gold marker write in the names of guests. Make lines out of pencil to use as guides.
  6. Once everything is dry erase the pencil lines with an eraser.
  7. Figure out where you want the beaded strands to meet on each edge and hot glue them on the back of the sign. Trim off any excess. Use the excess from each strand to make a strand that hangs from one side.
  8. Make a tassel out of floss by wrapping the floss around four fingers until desired fullness. Pull from fingers and use a small piece of floss to tie a knot around the top of the gathered floss about a 1/4" from the top creating a loop. Cut the loop at the other end to create the tassel. Thread a piece of floss through the loop and use to secure to the hanging beaded strands. Cut off any excess strings after secured in place.
  9. Layer when displaying
