SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 2 Unfinished wood spiderweb bookends
- Acrylic paint: black, dark chocolate, raw umber, rich espresso
- Satin varnish
- Tim Holtz Distress Texture Paste
- Medium flat paintbrush
- Medium grit sandpaper
- Disposable paper plate
DIRECTIONS:
- Sand any rough areas on the bookends.
- Paint dabs of the Distress Texture Paste sparingly around the edges to age the wood.
- Place a dab of each color of paint on the plate. With a brush, pick up some of each color so that it is still shows each color on the brush. Paint the bookends randomly mixing the paint to look like aged bronze. Apply several coats, allowing it to dry between each one.
- After the layering of the base colors is complete, use the edge of a brush on the bookends with the lightest color to highlight the edges.
- Once the paint is dry, apply a topcoat of the varnish.
JOANN HACKS:
- Paint the edges with the raw umber to make them look worn.
- Apply more of the Distress Texture Paste between paint layers if you need to hide seams or soften edges.
