Intermediate Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Jeans in need of repair
  • Denim fabric in an assortment of colors
  • Embroidery thread in desired colors
  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors
  • Water soluble marker
  • Pins

DIRECTIONS:

Jeans 1

  1. Cut the jeans to desired length for shorter, above-the-ankle pants.
  2. Cut a thin triangle out of the outer edge seam.
  3. Rough up the raw edge of the jeans. Pull the cut edge taut and run an open pair of scissors along the raw edge.
  4. Cut a triangle of contrasting denim, wider than the cut out seam section.
  5. Sew the triangle to the inside of the pant leg, using a running stitch.
  6. Use the water soluble marker to draw a design onto the front of the jeans. See the project image for inspiration.
  7. Embroider along the design using a running stitch.
  8. Wet the fabric to remove any marker lines.

Jeans 2

  1. Cut 2 large patches in contrasting denim fabrics the width of the pant legs.
  2. Pin one of each pant leg.
  3. Use running stitches to stitch lines .5" apart vertically along one pant leg.
  4. Use running stitches to stitch lines .5" apart horizontally along one pant leg.
  5. Wet the fabric to remove any marker lines.

Jeans 3

  1. Cut small patches of contrasting denim fabrics and layer them over any holes or other desired sections of the jeans.
  2. Stitch each patch in place using a variety of stitching techniques. Extend the stitching beyond the patch and onto the pant leg.
  3. Wet the fabric to remove any marker lines.

Jeans 4

  1. Lay out a pair of jeans with torn knees. Cut a patch of fabric in a contrasting denim fabric slightly larger than the hole in the knee.
  2. Place the denim inside the pant leg and pin in place.
  3. With the water soluble marker, draw a design onto the front of the pant leg that extends beyond the hole and up and down the pant leg as desired.
  4. Stitch along the design with a running stitch, working through the jeans and the patch.
  5. Wet the fabric to remove any marker lines.
