DIRECTIONS:

Camera:

1. Cut the 3 1/2" tube (lens) to 3 1/2" long.
2. Place the tube on the 4" x 8" side of the cardboard box 1" from one side. Trace around the tube and cut out the circle.
3. Paint the button, viewfinder and the lens (inside and out) with white paint using the wash brush.
4. Lay the fabric on the box locating the most desirable location for the print on the front. Mark the fabric with the location of the corners of the box. Lift the box and use the chip brush to quickly apply a liberal amount of Mod Podge in an even layer. Press the fabric in place. Repeat on all sides. Cut in to the fabric toward the corners of the box and test fit the flaps on the ends prior to applying the Mod Podge. Overlap the ends.
5. The Mod Podge dries quickly. When it appears clear and dry to the touch apply a second coat on top of the fabric. Another coat may be applied then sanded to smooth out the rough texture.
6. Use the X-Acto knife to cut out the fabric covering the lens (large tube) hole.
7. Paint the button, viewfinder and lens (inside and out) with purple paint using the wash brush.
8. Cut a 1" x 11" piece of cardboard from the cereal box. Lay out a 12" piece of Duct tape sticky side up. Lay the cardboard in the center of the tape and fold the edges over the cardboard. Trim off the ends of tape.
9. Cut two pieces of trim 3 1/2" long. Fold one over a large purple metal ring finding and hot glue the ends together. Repeat. Hot glue one to either end of the box, centered. The rings will extend above the top of the box. The lens will be on the left side of the front. Insert one end of the remaining trim through one ring and fold over 3/4". Hot glue under the fold. Repeat for the other side.
10. Measure to find the center of the lens. Find this location on the back of the box. Center the viewfinder ring in this location. Trace the inside of the circle and use the X-Acto knife to cut out the circle.
11. Place hot glue on the back edge of the lens tube and press down into the box to attach.
12. Paint the back of the inside of the box with white and then purple to blend with the inside of the lens.
13. Hot glue the green tape strip around the lens, right up against the box. Place the seam under the lens.
14. Hot glue the viewfinder around the cut circle.
15. Hot glue the button on the top right side of the box, 1" in from the side.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

• The fabric will shrink slightly as the Mod Podge dries. When overlapping the ends let one layer dry before applying the next layer.

Adventure Binoculars:

1. Cut 2 cardboard tubes to 4 1/2". Paint the insides of the tubes white. Cut two strips of fabric 4 1/2" x 7 1/2". Brush Mod Podge on to one tube. Roll one strip of fabric on to tube. Adjust immediately, Mod Podge dries quickly. Stand tube upright to dry. Repeat.
2. Add multiple layers of Mod Podge. After each coating, allow to dry and lightly sand with sandpaper. Sand the edges of the tubes as well.
3. Cut 2 strips of thin cardboard 1" x 11". Lay out a 12" strip of Duct tape with the sticky side up. Center one strip of cardboard on the tape. Fold up the sides of the tape to cover the cardboard. Cut off the ends of the tape. Repeat.
4. Place the two tubes with the fabric seams together. Hot glue to secure tubes together.
5. Cut 2 strips of ribbon 2 3/4" long. Fold one ribbon over a turquoise ring finding. Hot glue the ends of the ribbon together. Repeat.
6. Hot glue one of the taped thin cardboard strips around the ends of the tubes. These strips will need to be trimmed. Cut 1/8" short of wrapping around both tubes. Hot glue a 1" strip of the lacing for an added detail in the space. On the other end of the tubes repeat the addition of the cardboard strip adding the ribbon ends under the cardboard on the sides of the tubes. The rings and ribbons will be on the fabric side of the cardboard strip.
7. Cut 3 pieces of Suede lacing 6" long. Tie the three ends together around one of the rings. Braid the lacing. Tie the other end to the other ring. Trim the ends to 1/2" and hot glue into the knots to secure.

HIBISCUS FLOWER

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

Yellow, 9" x 12" sheet, 1

• Rotary cutter or scissors
• Darice Chenille Stems, 100pc., 6mm x 12", 1
• Loctite Spray Adhesive, High Performance, 13.5 oz, 1
• Spring Clamps, small, 3-5 or Clothespins
• Permanent marker
• Hot Glue
• Hot Glue Gun
• Coat hanger or similar gauge wire, 1ft or longer depending on stem length
• Wire Cutters
• Pliers
• Tape, 3/4"

DIRECTIONS:

1. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above). Enlarge patterns.
2. Make 5 large petals: Cut 10, 6" x 9" rectangles out of red felt. Cut 5 Chenille stems in half. Lay out 5 of the rectangles and spray with adhesive. Immediately lay 2 Chenille stems centered, 1" apart, with the ends at the 6" side of the rectangle. Spray a second coat of adhesive and lay the other 5 felt pieces one on top of each. This will create 5 double thick felt petals with stems inside. Transfer the template pattern to the felt parts using a permanent marker. The flat bottom should line up with the side of the felt with the tips of the stems. The stems will not extend the full length of the petal pattern.
3. Orange flower center: Cut 5 of the orange pattern. Spray each with adhesive and press on to the 5 red petals. Line up the flat bottom edges.
4. Pinch the bottom edge of one petal together by bringing the orange section together. This will be the area to place a 3/4" x 3/4" patch of hot glue. Press together and hold using a spring clamp. Repeat for all the petals.
5. Place two petals next to each other lining up the pinched ends. Lay a line of hot glue on the outside, red felt side of the petal, from the pinched end to the top edge of the orange center. Press together and hold using a spring clamp. Repeat until all petals are attached full circle.
6. Cut 1 of the star pattern with the hole in the center. This will help secure all the petals together from the back. Center the hole on the center of the back of the flower. Hot glue one point of the star at a time and pinch around one of the petals. Repeat.
7. Cut one strip of yellow felt, 3" x 8". Place two strips of tape down the center of the length of the felt. Spray adhesive over the taped side of the felt. Pull the tape off and press the two glued edges together. This will create a loop the length of the felt. Cut through the loop side of the felt to the glue edge, every 3/8" along the length.
8. Cut one length of coat hanger wire (6" of the wire will be visible with the petals, any other length will be the stem). Place hot glue on one end of the yellow loop strip and attach to the wire end, Loop side of strip pointing toward the end of the wire. Spiral the felt around the wire using hot glue to attach. Cut one piece of orange felt 1 1/2" x 8". Fold the end down 1 1/2" and hot glue along the edge creating a loop similar to the yellow loops but on the short end of the felt. Cut the loop every 3/8", the same as the yellow felt. Wrap this felt under the yellow loops and covering the wire. Hot glue in place.
9. Slide the wire stem through the front of the center of the flower.
10. To cover the stem hot glue 1" wide strips of green spiraled down the wire.
11. Tropical leaves may be made to accompany the flowers. Use the same method of layering the felt with stems inside. Use one length of wire down the center of each leaf. For larger leaves tightly spiral two stems together. For longer leaves overlap stems and spiral for a longer center vein. Leave a few inches of wire extending beyond the felt. This may be used to attach to a longer stem.
12. Once the felt is glued together, rough cut the rectangles to heart shapes or elongated curves. Cut one side of the leaf then fold at the center vein. Use the cut side as a pattern for the second side. Repeat this process for smaller cuts in the leaves. To add a stem, spiral the exposed wire to a heavier gauge wire and hot glue. Hot glue 1" wide strips of green spiraled down the wire to finish the stem.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

• Cutting a poster board pattern of each of the parts will improve the accuracy and speed up the transfer of the patterns to the felt.
• Take time to allow the hot glue to fully cure when attaching the petals together. There will be some tension on the parts as they pull together.
