SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Assorted canvases
- Various size brushes
- Coordinating acrylic paint
- Water and paper towels for clean up
DIRECTIONS:
- Experiment with various painting techniques to add interest to your canvases. Use coordinating colors to create a cohesive look.
- Splatter: Add paint to your brush and flick it across the canvas to create an abstract result. Add a few drops of water to paint to get a finer splatter. Add dimension and interest by layering on a wooden letter, attached with hot glue.
- Abstract Blending: Add layers of color to your canvas in an abstract pattern — brush the colors into each other by painting them on while they are wet. Make sure not add too much paint. If the colors start to blend too much, allow them to dry before adding another layer of color. Add interesting design elements with black detail like the X's shown or, experiment with other shapes and designs.
- Stencil Quote: Decide on a quote and paint a coordinating design as the background — the quote used here is, “You are my sunshine." A bright colorful sunshine was first painted on the canvas. Start with your background color (in this case blue) and paint up to the rays and center of the sun. Make sure to allow the paint to dry between layers to avoid mudding up the paint colors. Once the background design is dry, decide where you want the letters to be laid out and stencil them with a stencil brush. Avoid using too much paint so it doesn't bleed.
