Kids Floral Cards

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Foam Core Board (In Natural/Kraft Paper Color)
  • Card Stock (12"x 12" sheets, coordinating colors)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Pencil
  • X-acto Blade
  • Wire Cutters
  • Floral Stems
  • Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks

DIRECTIONS:
FLORAL VASE
  1. Mark The desired size of your foam core with a pencil. Place The straight edge along The marks and cut using an Xacto blade.
  2. Draw out The vase shape onto a piece of card stock. Cut along The outline with scissors.
  3. Trace The vase cut out onto a piece of foam core. Cut around The vase outline with an X-acto blade.
  4. 1/2" in from each side cut down from The top about 3/4 of The way down, across and then back up 1/2" from The other side. The piece should be in a "U" shape with The top open like a vase would be.
  5. Glue The foam core cut out vase to The back of The cardstock vase cut out.
  6. Decorate The vase with cutouts from coordinating cardstock. Cut out shapes, stripes and pattern pieces with scissors and glue them on The vase with a glue stick. Place The vase face down on a cutting mat and trim The decorative pieces that overhang The edges for a finished edge.
  7. Glue The back of The foam core vase to The piece of blank foam core board at The center bottom of The board. Leave enough blank space above for The floral in The vase.
  8. Using wire cutters trim The floral pieces to manageable sizes. Insert The ends into The vase openings and arrange them as desired. Be careful to not over fill or you will rip The front of The cardstock vase.

HANDHELD FLORALS
  1. Mark The desired size of your foam core with a pencil. Place The straight edge along The marks and cut using an Xacto blade.
  2. Cover The foam core with cardstock.
  3. Trace yours or your child's hand onto cardstock and cut out.
  4. Glue The hand to The background at The bottom half of The board. Make The wrist continue off The side and trim off any excess. DO not glue The fingers down so that they can be wrapped around The floral arrangement.
  5. Cut a frame of contrasting cardstock 1" wide and glue around The perimeter of The board.
  6. Trim The FLORALS with wire cutters to fit inside The hand and glue in place to The board with hot glue.
  7. Wrap The fingers around The stems and use in place.

JOANN HACKS:
  • If making for small children to make arrangements add another layer of foam core to The back of The vase cardstock to reinforce The cardstock so The floral wire ends wont poke through.
  • If you do not want The FLORALS removable and want them secured in place, use hot glue to fix them to The foam core board.
  • Use faux or real floral. This is a great way to explore nature and get outside with kiddos! Encourage them to make The design on their vase and frame anything they imagine.
