Knit Workout Tank

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing Machine
  • Lightweight stretch knit fabric
  • Top Pattern Simplicity 9148

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Follow the pattern instructions for cutting the tank top out of the fashion fabric.
  2. On the wrong side of the fabric, stay stitch the front and back neck 3/8".
  3. To create the keyhole feature, put fabric right sides together, sew the center back
  4. seam stopping at the notches.
  5. From the notch point to the back neck, press under the raw edge 5/8" and
  6. topstitch in place. Creating the keyhole feature.
  7. To construct the body of the tank top, put right sides together sew the front and
  8. back side seams and shoulder seams, matching notches.
  9. Assemble and apply the bias facing for the neck and armhole per pattern instructions.
  10. Hem the tank top by pressing the raw edge 1/4" and folding it again another 1/4" for a clean finish.
  11. For the keyhole closure, sew a button or a hook and eye.

JOANN HACKS:
  • When working with stretch fabrics, stay stitching the neck an armhole edges can prevent the garment from losing its shape.
  • Using a stretch needle can also prevent seams from losing structure.
