SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1" Thick Headband
- Modge Podge
- Fabric, 1/4 yard
- Scissors
- Pins
- Iron
DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable pattern click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.- Use the attached pattern document to create your own true-to-life pattern piece on a sheet of paper.
- Fold your fabric so that you have 4 layers total.
- Pin the pattern piece in place, making sure to line it up correctly with the FOLD of the fabric. Cut.
- With the remaining leftover fabric, cut out approx. 1 1/2"x 15" strip.
- Using modge podge or something similar, glue the strip of fabric to the underside of the headband. Fold over the edges as you qo. Let dry.
- Line up the headband pieces with the right sides together, pin and then sew around the outer edge using a 3/8" seam allowance. Leave about a 2" opening at the end.
- Flip the fabric with the right sides out. Press.
- Fold in the raw edges of the 2" opening and topstitch just this section closed.
- Find the middle of the fabric and tie the knot around the center of the headband. Adjust it to look the way you want and make sure the side flaps pull down to the ends of the headband.
- To create a little pocket for the headband to fit into, find the inner layer of the inside of the each side headband piece and cut a 1/2" slit about 1 1/2" inches from the end.
- Tuck the sides of the headband into these slits and then tuck in any raw edges if they are sticking out. You may need to pull a little to get the second side of the headband in its hole.
JOANN HACKS:
- Instead of using modge podge or glue to attach the strip of fabric to the underside of the headband, you can also use strong double sided tape. Cover the underside of the fabric with 2 strips of tape and then fold it around the headband. It doesn't matter what it looks like on the top of the headband, it will be completely hidden.
- It will be helpful to use a pointed tool, pen, pencil, etc. to push out the corners of the headband when you flip it right side out.
