SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Cotton fabric
- Fusible fleece
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Iron
- Scissors / rotary cutter and mat
- Measuring tape
- Simplicity girls headband
- Hot glue gun
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut a length of fabric that is 22 1/2 inches long and 7 inches wide.
- Fold the fabric in half, right sides together.
- Sew the long edge together, leaving two inches open in the center.
- Reposition the fabric strip so that the seam sits in the center of the rectangle, and iron it down. Then sew the side edges.
- Cut a length of fusible fleece that is about 20 inches long and 3 inches wide.
- Iron fusible fleece onto the side of the pressed fabric without the seam.
- Flip the strip out through the opening.
- Sew the opening together.
- Press the strip flat with iron.
- Center the strip and tie a knot around the center of the headband.
- Pull edges of strip to edges of the headband, checking that the knot is staying in the center, and hot glue strip ends to the ends of the headband.
- Continue to hot glue from the bottom edges up to the top knot.
JOANN HACKS:
- Use a small amount of hot glue as you attach fabric to headband, to avoid creating large chunks of hot glue on the inside of the headband that would feel uncomfortable against the head.
- Before you glue the fabric strip to the headband, you can cut and attach an additional strip of fabric on inside and around the sides of the headband to cover any small area of the headband that may become visible around the knotted area.
