SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3 Prints or Solids of Cotton Canvas, 1yd for Each
  • 1/2" Twill Tape, 10'
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • Optional: Disappearing Ink Pen

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make three triangle templates: one that is 7"x 9" (small), one that is 6"x 11" (medium), and one that is 6 1/2"x 14" (large).
  2. Fold the canvas for the small triangles over 9", and use the template to trace the triangle onto the canvas. You should be able to get about 22 triangles out of one bolt-length of canvas. You only need 16 triangles for at 8 foot length of bunting.
  3. Repeat the process for the medium and large triangles. Fold the canvas 11" for the medium, and 14" for the large. You need 32 medium triangles and 8 large triangles for an 8 foot bunting.
  4. Begin to sew the triangles. Place two of the same triangle right sides together, and sew all the way around, leaving a 2" gap in the center of one of the sides. Trim the seam allowance in the three triangle points and turn right side out.
  5. Press flat with iron and sew the opening closed. Repeat for all triangles.
  6. When the triangles are complete, lay the 10' twill tape flat and set your triangles in place. Beginning a foot from the end of the twill tape, set the medium triangles point to point and layer the small over top centered between them. Overlap the medium triangle 1" over the large. Continue all the way across, it will give you 8' in length, with another foot of twill tape left open on the end. Pin triangles onto the twill tape.
  7. Stitch along the twill tape to secure the triangles.
