  • Red Heart Super Saver O'Go, Baby Rainbow
  • U.S. Size F/5 (3.75mm) Crochet Hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • Yarn Needle
  • Black Embroidery Floss
  • Fiberfill
  • Toothpick
  • Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks

  • MEASUREMENT:
    • 1 O'go makes 2 toys
    • Approx 8" tall, excluding ears and horn.

  • GAUGE: 16 sc and 17 rows = 4"

DIRECTIONS:

To begin working with the O'Go format, carefully cut plastic tie where the ends of the O'Go meet.
Pull tie to remove.
For this pattern, colors can be easily separated by gently pulling apart and cutting at the color transition. Each color is ready to use. Follow color guide shown in Materials section for each O'Go (Contrast A, B, C, D and E). You may find it helpful to place each color section in its own resealable (zip lock) bag and label each bag A, B, C, D and E.

Start crocheting.
To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook and draw new color through last 2 loops, then proceed in new color.

2-COLOR VERSION I
BODY
**With E, ch 2.1st rnd: 6 sc 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds (spiral). 6 sc. PM in last sc worked to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.2nd rnd: 2 sc in each of next 6 sts. 12 sc.3rd rnd: *1 sc in next st. 2 sc in next st. Rep from * around. 18 sc.4th rnd: *1 sc in each of next 2 sts. 2 sc in next st. Rep from * around. 24 sc.**

Stuff Body.
Next rnd: *With E, 1 sc in of next 3 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. 24 sts.
Next rnd: *1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. 18 sts.Next rnd: *1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. 12 sts.
Finish stuffing Body.

Fasten off leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts. Pull tightly. Fasten securely.

HEAD
Beg at muzzle with E, work from ** to ** as given for Body.
Next rnd: 1 sc in each st around.
Rep last rnd 8 times more. Join A. Break E.
With A, rep last rnd once more.
Stuff Head.
Next rnd: *1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. 18 sts.Next rnd: *1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog. Rep from * around. 12 sts.
Finish stuffing Head.
Next rnd: *Sc2tog. Rep from * around.

NECK
With E, ch 16, leaving a long end for sewing.
Join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st and each ch around. Join with sl st to first sc. 14 sc.2nd to 4th rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.

LEGS (make 4)
Beg at hoof with E, ch 2.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in first sc. 6 sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 3 times. Join with sl st in first sc. 9 sc
3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join A with sl st in first sc. Break E.
Note: Do not join at end of rnds. Cont in continuous rnds. PM in the last sc worked to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.

EARS (make 2)
With A, ch 11.
Row 1: Working in back bumps only, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch. 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch. 1 dc in each of next 2 ch. 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch. 1 sc in each of last 2 ch. 10 sts. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold each ear in half widthwise. With tops of stitches facing frontwards, sew the backs of ears tog using yarn tail.

FORELOCK
With B, ch 7.1st row: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 3 sc in each ch to end of chain. 18 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing forelock to head.

MANE (make 3)
Note: Each piece of mane is a different length.
The instructions are written for shortest piece of mane. The instructions for longer pieces are written thus ( ).
With B, ch 12 (14-16).
1st row: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 3 sc in each ch to end of chain. 33 (39-45) sc.Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing Mane pieces to back of head.

TAIL (make 3)
With B, ch 31.1st row: Working in back bumps only, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end of chain. Fasten off.
Wings (make 2)
With B, ch 2, leaving a long tail for sewing Wing to body, make an adjustable ring.1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral). 6 sc. PM in the last sc worked to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 16 sc.
3rd and 4th rnds: 1 sc in each sc around. Flatten piece matching the front and back stitches of the last rnd to form a double layer of 8 sts in each layer.
Work now proceeds back and forth in rows.5th row: Ch 1, working through both layers, 1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Turn.
6th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
7th row: Ch 1. *(Sl st. 1 hdc. Sl st) in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Fasten off, weave in and trim ending tail.

STRIPED VERSION II
Note: Join all rnds with sl st to first sc.
To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook and draw new color through last 2 loops, then proceed in new color.

FINISHING
Referring to photograph as a guide to placement, use yarn tails or yarn scraps to sew the following pieces tog.1. Sew Ears to top of head 4 sts apart.2. Sew Neck to underside of Head.3. Sew Head and Neck to top front of Body.
4. Sew legs to bottom of Body.
5. Sew forelock to forehead of Version I, between ears.
6. Sew mane pieces to back of head, positioning the shortest piece at top and the longest piece at bottom.
7. Hold all three tail pieces tog, fold in half. With yarn tail from end of Body, insert needle through tail pieces at fold and sew to rear of Body.
8. Sew Wings to back, positioning wings in shoulder area of Body.
With 2 strands of black embroidery floss, embroider each nostril, using Straight Stitch, approx 4 or 5 rnds from beg of muzzle and 5 sts apart. Embroider curved smil, using Back Stitch, following 3rd or 4th rnd at muzzle, approx 4 or 5 stitches long. Embroider Eyes, using Satin Stitch.

HORN
Generously coat 1/3 of wooden toothpick with strong craft glue. Wrap B around toothpick wrapping from beg of the glue up to the point. Hold the wraps until yarn adheres. Trim yarn even when glue is dry.
After horn is dry, place small amount of glue on unwrapped end of toothpick and insert it at the center of the unicorn's forehead, about 2 rnds down from ears. Allow glue to dry.
