TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION
Cable Cast On
Insert right needle between first 2 sts on left needle, wrap yarn and pull through (as if knitting a st), transfer new st to left needle; rep from * for desired number of sts.
PILLOW IS MADE IN 2 PIECES: Front and Back.
Circular needles are used to accommodate the sts. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle, just as if working on straight needles.
Front is worked in Seed st and Cable patterns with an I-Cord outer edging. Back is worked in Seed st only.
Front patterns can be worked by following written instructions or reading Charts. Read RS rows of Charts from right to left and WS rows from left to right.
Front and Back are sewn together and and then stuffed.
When you see 'as established' in the instructions, this means to continue in the current pattern sts, lining up sts as in previous rows.
FRONT
With shorter needle, cast on 95 sts.
Increase Row (WS): K1 (selvedge st); work Row 1 of Seed st over next 5 sts, (k1, kfb) 12 times, k1; work Row 1 of Seed st over next 5 sts; (k1, kfb) 9 times, k5; work Row 1 of Seed st over next 5 sts; (k1, kfb) 12 times, k1; work Row 1 of Seed st over next 5 sts; k1 (selvedge st) - you will have 128 sts in this row.
CABLE PATTERNS
Row 1 (Set-Up Row - RS): K1 (selvedge st), work in Seed st as established over next 5 sts, place marker (pm), work Row 1 of Branching Cable pattern over next 37 sts, pm, work in Seed st as established over next 5 sts, pm, work Row 1 of Staghorn pattern over next 32 sts, pm, work in Seed st as established over next 5 sts, pm, work Row 1 of Branching Cable pattern over next 37 sts, pm, work in Seed st as established over next 5 sts, k1 (selvedge st).
Keeping first and last st in Garter st (k every st of every row) for selvedge sts and slipping markers as you come to them, continue in patterns as established. Work Staghorn pattern between innermost pair of markers, Branching Cable pattern between each of the 2 outermost pairs of markers, and 5 sts of Seed st before, between and after cable patterns, until piece measures about 20 1/2 in. (52 cm) from beg, end with a Row 15 of Branching Cable pattern.
Decrease Row (WS): K1, work in Seed st as established over next 5 sts, slip marker (sm), (k1, k2tog) 12 times, k1, sm, work in Seed st over next 5 sts, sm, (k1, k2tog) 9 times, k5, sm, work in Seed st over next 5 sts, sm, (k1, k2tog) 12 times, k1, sm, work in Seed st over next 5 sts, k1 - 95 sts.
Bind off.
BACK
With shorter needle, cast on 95 sts.
Work in Seed st until piece measures same length as Front.
Bind off.
FINISHING
From RS with longer needle, pick up and k95 sts evenly spaced along each of the 4 sides of Front. Place marker for beg of round. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle - 380 sts.
I-Cord Bind Off: Using Cable Cast On, cast on 5 sts. * k4, k2tog, return 5 sts to left hand needle; rep from * until only 5 sts remain on left hand needle.
Bind off rem 5 sts and sew bind off edge to cable cast on edge.
Sew Front and Back together around 3 sides. Stuff Pillow or insert pillow form, then sew remaining side closed.
Weave in ends.
