    • #098 Ecru, 3 Balls (A)

  • Lion Brand Large-Eyed Blunt Needle
  • Circular Needle Size 9 (5 1/2mm), 29in or Longer
  • 3in Piece of Cardboard (for tassels)

  • SIZE:
  • Finished Wingspan About 78in measured along top edge.
  • Finished Length About 21in measured from center top edge down to center point, not including tassels

  • GAUGE:
  • 18 sts + 33 rows = about 5in in Garter st (k every st of every row).
  • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:

SHAWL:
With A, cast on 280 sts.
With A, knit 2 rows.
Decrease Row: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog - you will have 278 sts in this row.
Rep Decrease row and change yarn color as follows: work next 23 rows with A, 12 rows with B, 10 rows with A, 4 rows with B, 20 rows with A, 8 rows with B, 12 rows with A, 2 rows with B, 4 rows with A, 4 rows with B, 38 rows with A - you will have 4 sts remaining when all of these rows have been completed.
Next Row: With A, (k2tog) twice - 2 sts.
Next Row: With A, k2tog - 1 st.
Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Weave in ends.

TASSELS (make 3):
Wrap B yarn around 3in cardboard about 30 times.
Cut a 10in length of yarn and thread into blunt needle. Insert needle under all strands at upper edge of cardboard. Pull tightly and knot securely near strands.
Cut yarn loops at lower edge of cardboard. Cut a 6in length of yarn and wrap tightly around loops 1in below top knot to form Tassel neck. Knot securely; thread ends into blunt needle and weave to center of Tassel.
Trim Tassel ends evenly.
Tie a tassel to each corner of Shawl.

NOTES:
Shawl is worked in one piece in Garter st (k every st of every row) from the top edge downwards.
The Shawl is shaped with decreases at beginning and end of every row, and yarn color is changed to make stripes.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the numbr of sts. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle just as if working on straight needles.
