SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
STITCH EXPLANATION:
hdc-3rd (half double crochet in 3rd loop) Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd loop of indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Note: When working back and forth in rows, the 3rd loop is on the side of the piece that is facing you, immediately below the front loop.
NOTES:
Poncho is made in 2 pieces: Body and Collar.
Body is worked in one piece then folded and seamed following a diagram.
Collar is sewn to neck edge.
Buttons aren't meant to be functional, they're decorative only.
BODY:
Ch 211.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch; rep from * across - you will have 210 sts in this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, dc in next sc, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * across.
Rows 3-58: Rep Row 2.
Do not fasten off.
Edging
Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st (corner made); sc evenly spaced along side edge working 1 sc in end of each row; working along opposite side of foundation ch, 2 sc in first ch (corner made), sc in each ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch (corner made); sc evenly spaced along side edge working 1 sc in end of each row; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.
COLLAR:
Ch 37.
Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 36 hdc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, hdc-3rd in each st across.
Row 3-60: Rep Row 2.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
FINISHING:
With ends of Collar slightly overlapped at folded end of Body, sew Collar around neck edge, stretching to fit.
Fringe
Cut two 12 in. (30.5 cm) lengths of yarn.
Hold strands of yarn together and fold in half. With hook, draw fold through edge of piece, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten.
Make 30 fringes along lower edge of Body with each fringe about 7 sts apart. Trim fringe ends evenly.
Following Diagram, fold Body in half, lining up short ends.
Place a marker on unfringed long edge, about 13 in. (33 cm) from fold. Sew edges together from marker towards short ends, stopping 9 in. (23 cm) from corners.
With sewing needle and thread, sew one button to Collar, about 1 in. (2.5 cm) from lower edge and to the left of second row of ribbing. Sew second button 2 in. (5 cm) above first button.
Weave in ends.
