skp (slip, knit, pass over) Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch - 1 st decreased.
NOTES:
Cardigan is worked in one piece from the lower edge upwards.
Piece is divided at underarms and fronts and back worked separately up to shoulders.
Collar is worked in Garter st (k every st of every row) directly onto front edge of Cardigan.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the number of sts. Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working with straight needles.
CARDIGAN:
Cast on 160 (180, 200, 220, 240, 260) sts.
Beg with a RS (knit) row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 20in from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Divide for Fronts and Back.
Row 1 (RS): K32 (37, 42, 47, 52, 57) and place these sts on a holder for right front, k96 (106, 116, 126, 136, 146) and place these sts on a holder for back, k to end of row - 32 (37, 42, 47, 52, 57) sts rem on needle for left front.
LEFT FRONT:
Beg with a WS (purl) row, work in St st until left front measures about 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9) in. (16.5 (18, 19, 20.5, 21.5, 23) cm) from divide.
Bind off.
BACK:
Return 96 (106, 116, 126, 136, 146) back sts to needle so that you are ready to work a WS row.
Beg with a WS row, work in St st until back measures about 7 (7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2)in from divide.
Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT:
Return 32 (37, 42, 47, 52, 57) right front sts to needle so that you are ready to work a WS row.
Beg with a WS row, work in St st until right front measures same as left front.
Bind off.
FINISHING:
Sew shoulder seams.
COLLAR:
From RS of Cardigan and beg at lower right front corner, pick up and k 1 st in end of every row along right front edge, in every st along back neck edge (including in each corner at beg and end of back neck edge), and in end of every row along left front edge to lower left front corner. Note: Picking up 1 st in the end of every row will create a drapey collar.
Work in Garter st (k every st of every row) for 25 rows.
Bind off on RS of Cardigan as if to knit.
SLEEVE EDGING:
Note: Rather than specifying the number of sts, designer suggests that you pick up and knit any number of sts that creates a neat edge.
From RS, beg at underarm, pick up and knit sts as evenly spaced as possible around one armhole edge, picking up an even number of sts.
Working from RS, cast on 3 sts onto left needle, * K2, skp, return these 3 sts to left needle; rep from * until only 3 sts rem.
Bind off rem 3 sts.
Rep edging around second armhole.
Weave in ends.
