  • 14 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm); 6 rows = about 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) over Rows 2-5.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS:
Puff (4-hdc puff - worked all in one st) Yarn over, insert hook around post of indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, (yarn over, insert hook around post of same st, yarn over and pull up a loop) 3 times, yarn over, draw through all 9 loops on hook. Note: The Puff in this design is worked around the post of a stitch instead of in the top of a stitch.
Cross-dc (1 over 2 crossed dc sts) Sk next st, dc in next 2 sts; working over the 2 dc just made, dc in skipped st. Note: To work "over" the 2 dc just made, yarn over, take hook in front of the 2 dc just made and insert hook from front to back in skipped st, take working yarn behind the 2 dc just made and yarn over, pull loop to front, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

NOTE:
Scarf is worked in one piece, back and forth in rows of Puffs and rows of Cross-dc sts separated by rows of plain dc sts.

SCARF:
Ch 28.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc) and in each ch across - you will have 26 dc in this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, *sc in next st, ch 4, Puff around the post of the sc just made, sk next 2 sts; rep from * to last st, sc in last st - 10 sc, 8 Puffs, and 8 ch-4 sps.
Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as tr), turn, 3 dc in each ch-4 sp across, tr in last sc - 26 sts.
Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, (Cross-dc) 8 times, dc in top of beg ch-4 - 8 Cross-dc and a dc at beg and end of row.
Row 5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each st across working last dc in top of beg ch-3 - 26 dc.
Rep Rows 2-5 until almost all yarn has been used, end with a Row 3 or a Row 5 as the last row you work.

Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Weave in ends.
