V-st (V-stitch) Work (dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st.
NOTES:
Scarf is worked 3 pieces: Scarf and 2 Pockets.
Scarf is worked back and forth in rows, alternating A-colored stripes of hdc and B-colored sections of V-sts. The piece may curve when V-st sections are worked - but don't worry, the piece will straighten out again when the next hdc stripe is completed.
Pockets are worked separately, in the same pattern as Scarf, and crocheted to Scarf when border is worked.
To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the st. Proceed with new color. Carry color not in use carefully up side of piece. Cover carried strands when working border.
SCARF:
With A, ch 43.
Row 1: With A, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - you will have 42 hdc in this row.
Row 2: With A, ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across and change to B in last st.
Row 3: With B, ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, V-st in next st, *sk next st, V-st in next st; rep from * to last 2 sts, sk next st, dc in last st - 20 V-sts and 1 dc at beg and end of row.
Rows 4-8: With B, ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, V-st in ch-1 sp of each V-st across, dc in top of beg ch-3; change to A in last st of Row 8.
Row 9: With A, ch 1, turn, hdc in first st, *sk first dc of next V-st, hdc in ch-1 sp of same V-st, hdc in next dc of same V-st; rep from * across, hdc in top of beg ch-3 - 42 hdc.
Row 10: With A, ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across and change to B in last st.
Rep Rows 3-10 until there are a total of 19 A-colored stripes.
Fasten off.
POCKETS (make 2):
With A, ch 43.
Make same as Scarf until there are 4 A-colored stripes.
Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Lay Scarf onto a flat surface. Lay a Pocket onto each end of Scarf with rows and sts matching and same side of Scarf and Pocket facing up.
Make sure that the V-sts on Pockets and Scarf are facing in the same direction.
BORDER
From RS, join yarn with sl st in any corner of Scarf so that you are ready to beg working along a long edge.
NOTE: Work through both thicknesses to join a pocket at each end of Scarf, work through the single thickness when working along long edges of Scarf between pockets.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc evenly spaced all the way around outside edge of Scarf, working 3 hdc in each corner; join with sl st in first hdc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, working 3 hdc in each corner; join with sl st in first hdc.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
