DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATIONS:3-tr Cl (3 treble crochet cluster) (Yarn over) 2 times, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) 2 times (2 loops rem on hook), *(yarn over) 2 times, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) 2 times; rep from * once more, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
BPhdc (Back Post half double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from back to front then to back again, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. Skip top of st in front of the BPhdc.
dc3tog (dc 3 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
hdc-3rd (half double crochet in 3rd loop) Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd loop of indicated st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Note: When working rnds, the 3rd loop is on the side of the piece facing away from you, immediately below the back loop.

NOTES:
Body of Bag is made from 4 Granny Squares sewn together.
Base is worked directly onto one edge of body. Upper bag and handles are worked directly onto upper edge of body.
To change yarn color, fasten off old color and draw up a loop of new color as instructed.
GRANNY SQUARES (make 4):
With A, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): With A, ch 3 (counts as dc), work 7 dc in ring; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - you will have 8 dc in this rnd.
Fasten off.
Rnd 2: With A, ch 1, sc in same st as joining sl st, * ch 6, sc in next st; rep from * around, ch 6; join with sl st in first sc - 8 sc and 8 ch-6 sps.
Fasten off.
Rnd 3: From RS, draw up a loop of B in any ch-6 sp, ch 1, scallop in same ch-6 sp, * scallop in each ch-6 sp around; join with sl st in first sc - 8 scallops.
Fasten off.
Rnd 4: From RS, draw up a loop of C in center tr of any scallop, ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3, sk next 6 sts, corner-petals in next tr, * ch 3, sk next 6 sts, sc in next tr, ch 3, sk next 6 sts, corner-petals in next tr; rep from * to last 6 sts, ch 3, sk last 6 sts; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 4 corner-petals, 4 sc, and 8 ch-3 sps (1 sc and 2 ch-3 sps along each of 4 sides between corner-petals).

Rnd 7: From RS, draw up a loop of B in any dc, ch 1, sc in each st and ch-1 sp around working 3 sc in each corner ch-3 sp; join with sl st in first sc - 112 sc.
Fasten off.
JOINING:
With B, sew 4 Granny Squares into a strip. Then sew short ends of strip together to form a ring.
UPPER BAG AND HANDLES:
Note: Upper section of Bag is worked along one long side of Granny Square ring.
Rnd 1: From RS, draw up a loop of B in a seam between any 2 Granny Squares, ch 1, work 27 sc evenly spaced along edge of each Granny Square; join with sl st in first sc - 108 sc.
Fasten off.
Rnd 2: From RS, draw up a loop of C in any st of Rnd 1, ch 1, BPhdc around each st around; join with sl st in first BPhdc.
Fasten off.
Rnd 3: From RS, draw up a loop of D in any st, ch 2 (does not count as a st), hdc-3rd in each st around; join with sl st in first hdc.
Fasten off.
Rnd 4: From RS, draw up a loop of A in any st, ch 2 (does not count as a st), hdc-3rd in each st around; join with sl st in first hdc.
Fasten off.
Rnd 5: With B, rep Rnd 4.
Do not fasten off.
Continue with B only for handles.
HANDLES:

Rnd 10: Ch 1, sl st in each st around; join with sl st in first sl st.
Fasten off.
BASE:
Note: Base is worked along lower edge of ring of Granny Squares.
Rnd 1: From RS, draw up a loop of B in a seam between Granny Squares, ch 1, work 27 sc evenly spaced along edge of each Granny Square; join with sl st in first sc - 108 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, BPhdc in around each st around; join with sl st in first BPhdc.
Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), hdc in each st around; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place a marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnds 4 and 5: Rep Rnd 3 twice.
Rnd 6: * Hdc in next 7 sts, hdc2tog; rep from * around - 96 hdc.
Rnd 7: * Hdc in next 6 sts, hdc2tog; rep from * around - 84 hdc.
Rnd 8: * Hdc in next 5 sts, hdc2tog; rep from * around - 72 hdc.
Rnd 9: * Hdc in next 4 sts, hdc2tog; rep from * around - 60 hdc.
Rnd 10: * Hdc in next 3 sts, hdc2tog; rep from * around - 48 hdc.

Knot securely. If needed, sew a few sts to completely close opening.
FINISHING:
Fold one handle in half lengthwise, matching sts along long edges of handle. Skip first 10 sts then sew edges together to create a rolled handle. Rep on second handle.
Weave in ends.
