MATERIALS NOTE:
Sweater is worked from the top down, so the circumference will change as you work. As stitches are increased, you'll need to change to longer and longer circular needles as you proceed.
You can use multiple length needles as listed in our pattern or, if you have a set of interchangeable needles, simply attach additional cords.

If you prefer, the Sweater can be knit on a long circular knitting needle using the Magic Loop technique. Google "Magic Loop" for how-to videos.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
2/1 LC (2 over 1 left cross) Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k1, then k2 from cable needle.
2/1 RC (2 over 1 right cross) Slip 1 st to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then k1 from cable needle.
2/2 LC (2 over 2 left cross) Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k2, then k2 from cable needle.
2/2 RC (2 over 2 right cross) Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k2, then k2 from cable needle.
M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

PATTERN STITCH
Twisted K1, p1 Rib (worked in rnds over an even number of sts)
Rnd 1: * K1 tbl, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnd 1 for Twisted K1, p1 Rib.

TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION
Cable Cast-On
Work cable cast on as follows: * Insert right needle between first 2 sts on left needle, wrap yarn and pull through (as if knitting a st), transfer new st to left needle; rep from * for desired number of sts.

NOTE:
Sweater is worked in one piece from the neck downwards.
Work begins back and forth in rows to shape neck. After neck is shaped, Sweater is worked in rounds to underarms. Piece is then divided and sleeves and body are worked separately in rounds down to lower edge.
Sleeves are worked in rounds on double pointed needles.
When you see work 'even' in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.

YOKE
Shape Neck
With shortest circular needle, cast on 52 (54, 54, 58) sts. Do not join to work in the round. Begin by working back and forth in rows on circular needle, as if working with straight needles.
Purl 1 row.
Row 1 (RS): Cast on 3 (4, 5, 6) sts using Cable Cast-On, knit to end of row - you will have 55 (58, 59, 64) sts in this row.
Row 2: Cast on 3 (4, 5, 6) sts using Cable Cast-On, purl to end of row - 58 (62, 64, 70) sts.
Next 8 (10, 12, 12) Rows: Rep Rows 1 and 2 for 4 (5, 6, 6) more times - 82 (102, 124, 142) sts when all repeats have been completed.
Note: Change to longer circular needles as sts are sufficiently increased.
Next Row (RS): Cast on 18 (18, 16, 18) sts using Cable Cast-On (for front neck), knit to end of row - 100 (120, 140, 160) sts.
