• Circular Knitting Needle Size 7 (4 1/2mm), 16in Long
• SIZE:
• Finished Circumference: About 18in, will stretch to fit a range of sizes
• Finished Height: About 8 1/2in
• GAUGE:
• 21 sts = about 4in over St st worked in rnds (k every st of every rnd).
• BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:

Hat begins with a ribbed lower band, then is worked in one piece in rnds from the lower edge upwards.
Work begins on a circular needle, changing to double pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.
Top of Hat is shaped with simple decreases.

HAT:
With circular needle and A, cast on 96 sts.
Place marker for beg of rnd and join by knitting the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist the sts.
Rnd 1: * K2, p2; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Change to B.
Rep Rnd 1 until piece measures about 1 1/2in from beg.
Work in St st worked in rnds (k every st of every rnd) until piece measures about 6 1/2in from beg.
Shape Top of Hat.
Note: Change to double pointed needles when stitches have been sufficiently decreased.
Rnd 1: * K10, k2tog; rep from * around - you'll have 88 sts in this rnd.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: * K9, k2tog; rep from * around - you'll have 80 sts.
Rnd: Knit.
Rnd 4: * K8, k2tog; rep from * around - 72 sts
Rnd 5: Knit.
Rnd 6: * K7, k2tog; rep from * around - 64 sts
Rnd 7: Knit.
Rnd 8: * K6, k2tog; rep from * around - 56 sts.
Rnd 9: Knit.
Rnd 10: * K5, k2tog; rep from * around - 48 sts.
Rnd 11: Knit.
Rnd 12: * K4, k2tog; rep from * around - 40 sts.
Rnd 13: Knit.
Rnd 14: * K3, k2tog; rep from * around - 32 sts.
Rnd 15: Knit.
Rnd 16: * K2, k2tog; rep from * around - 24 sts.
Rnd 17: Knit.
Rnd 18: K2tog around - 12 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail.
Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to close opening at top of Hat.
Knot securely.

FINISHING:
Weave in ends.
