DIRECTIONS:
Hat is worked in one piece in rnds from the lower edge upwards beg with a ribbed lower band.Body of Hat is worked in a simple Purl Dot pattern.
Work begins on a circular needle, changing to double pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.
Top of Hat is shaped with simple decreases.
HAT:
With circular needle and A, cast on 96 sts.
Place marker for beg of rnd and join by knitting the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist the sts.
Next Rnd: * K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rep last rnd until piece measures about 2in from beg.
PURL DOT PATTERN:
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: * K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until piece measures about 8 1/2in from beg, end with a Rnd 2 as the last rnd you work.
Shape Top of Hat.
Note: Change to double-pointed needles when stitches have been sufficiently decreased.
Rnd 1: * K11, k2tog, k1, k2tog; rep from * around - you will have 84 sts in this rnd.
Rnd 2: * K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 3: * K9, k2tog, k1, k2tog; rep from * around - 72 sts.
Rnd 4: * K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 5: * K7, k2tog, k1, k2tog; rep from * around - 60 sts.
Rnd 6: * K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 7: * K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 30 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts. Pull tail to close opening at top of Hat. Knot securely.
FINISHING:
POM-POM:
With B, following package instructions, make a pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Hat.
Weave in ends.
