- Finished Circumference: About 18 1/2in, will stretch to fit a range of sizes
- Finished Height: About 8 1/2in
- GAUGE:
- 10 1/2 sts = about 4in over St st worked in rnds (knit every rnd).
- BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
DIRECTIONS:
Hat is worked in one piece in the round beginning on a circular needle, then changing to double pointed knitting needles.Top of Hat is shaped with simple decreases.
HAT:
With A and circular needle, cast 48 sts.
Place marker for beginning of rnd and join by knitting the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist the sts.
Work in St st worked in rnds (knit every rnd) until piece measures about 3in from beg.
Next Rnd: *With B, k1, with A, k1; rep from * around.
Cut A.
With B, work in St st worked in rnds until piece measures about 6in from beg.
Next Rnd: *With C, k1, with B, k1; rep from * around.
Cut B, continue with C only for remainder of Hat.
Decrease for top of Hat: Note: Continue with C only for remainder of Hat and change to double pointed needles as you work the next rnd.
Next Rnd: *Knit 6, k2tog; rep from * around - you'll have 42 sts.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: *Knit 5, k2tog; rep from * around - 36 sts.
Next Rnd: *Knit 6, k2tog; rep from * around - 30 sts.
Next Rnd: K2tog around - 15 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into blunt needle and then weave through sts of the last rnd.
Pull to close top of Hat and knot yarn.
FINISHING:
Weave in yarn ends.
