- SIZE:
- Finished circumference: About 18 1/2in, will stretch to fit a range of sizes
- Finished height: About 8 1/2in
- GAUGE:
- sts = about 4in over St st worked in rnds (knit every rnd).
- BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
DIRECTIONS:
Hat is worked in one piece in the round beginning on a circular needle, then changing to double pointed knitting needles.Easy colorwork is worked following a chart. Do not cut yarn between color changes unless otherwise indicated, just carry unused color stranded across WS of Hat.
HAT:
With A and circular needle, cast 48 sts.
Place marker for beginning of rnd and join by knitting the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist the sts.
Cut A.
Change to B.
Rnd 1: *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * around.
Rnds 2-4: Rep Rnd 1.
Begin Chart:
Change to St st worked in rnds (knit every rnd).
Next Rnd: Changing color following Rnd 1 of Chart, work the 4-st rep of chart 12 times around.
Continue to follow Chart until you have completed all TK rnds of Chart.
Cut A and C, continue with B only.
Work in St st worked in rnds until piece measures about 8in from beginning.
Decrease for top of Hat:
Note: Change to double pointed needles as you work the next rnd.
Next Rnd: *Knit 10, k2tog; rep from * around - you'll have 44 sts.
Next Rnd: *Knit 9, k2tog; rep from * around - 40 sts.
Next Rnd: K2tog around - 20 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into blunt needle and then weave through sts of the last rnd.
Pull to close top of Hat and knot yarn.
FINISHING:
POM-POM:
With A and following package directions, make a pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Hat.
Weave in yarn ends.
