DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATION:sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
NOTES:
Hat is worked in continuous rnds (spiral), with RS always facing, beginning at top of Hat.
Earflaps are worked back and forth in rows, with decreases for shaping.
HAT:
Ch 2.
Rnd 1 (RS): Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral).
Place marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around - you’ll have 12 sc in this rnd.
Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 18 sc.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around - 24 sc.
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 30 sc.
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts; rep from * around - 36 sc.
Rnd 7: *Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 42 sc.
Rnds 8-14: Sc in each st around.
First Earflap
Sl st in next sc.
Row 15 (WS): Ch 1, turn, sc in next 9 sts; leave rem sts unworked.
Rows 16-19: Ch 1, turn, sc in 9 sts.
Row 20 (Decrease Row): Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog - 7 sc.
Rows 21 and 22: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 7 sts.
Row 23 (Decrease Row): Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog - 5 sc.
Row 24: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 5 sts.
Row 25 (Decrease Row): Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog - 3 sc.
Row 26: Ch 1, turn, draw up a loop in first st, skip 2nd st, draw up a loop in 3rd st, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st remains.
Tie
Row 27: Ch 1, turn, sc in st.
Rep Row 27 until tie measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm).
Fasten off.
Second Earflap
With WS of Hat facing, skip 12 unworked sts of last rnd of Hat following first ear flap, join yarn with sl st in next sc.
Row 15 (WS): Ch 1, sc in same sc and in next 8 sts; leave rem sts unworked - 9 sc.
Work Second Earflap and tie as for First Earflap.
Tassels
Wrap yarn around cardboard 30 times.
Cut a 13 in. (33 cm) strand of yarn and draw under all strands at upper edge of cardboard. Pull tightly and knot securely near strands. Cut yarn loops at lower edge of cardboard.
With a square knot, tie a Tassel to end of each Earflap tie.
Trim Tassel ends evenly.
FINISHING:
Pom-Pom
Wrap remaining yarn around cardboard.
Follow tassel directions to make the pom-pom.
Shake pom-pom into shape, then tie to top of Hat.
Weave in ends.
