Little Girl Dress with Rainbow Stripe

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Pattern Simplicity 9153
• Stretch fabric for the stay
• 3 POP! fabrics For the rainbow detail
• Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

1. Before constructing the garment, take measurements for the placement of the rainbow appliqué.
2. Following the patterns instructions, construct the front dress only.
3. Measure diagonally the front dress from left shoulder to the right hem, this will be the length of the rainbow appliqué.
4. The width of the rainbow appliqué is your preference. The rainbow can cover majority of the bottom skirt, or a small amount.
5. On pattern-making paper, draw a straight line of the diagonal and width measurement, creating a block.
6. Draw straight lines and divide into three sections, varying widths to give a rainbow effect.
7. For the ‘rainbow’ curve design line, use the straight lines as your guide and carefully draw a curved line. Do this for the rest of the rainbow sections.
8. Cut the rainbow appliqué pattern out of your fashion fabric.
9. Stitch all three sections of the appliqué at the side seams, right sides together 3/8".
10. Now the rainbow appliqué is assembled, turn under the raw edges 3/8" on both sides and press.
11. Place the rainbow appliqué on the front of the dress, stitch in place.

• Sewing inner and outer curves together can be made easier by stay stitching and clipping curves when needed.
