SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Pattern Simplicity 9153
- Stretch fabric for the stay
- 3 POP! fabrics For the rainbow detail
- Basic sewing supplies
DIRECTIONS:
- Before constructing the garment, take measurements for the placement of the rainbow appliqué.
- Following the patterns instructions, construct the front dress only.
- Measure diagonally the front dress from left shoulder to the right hem, this will be the length of the rainbow appliqué.
- The width of the rainbow appliqué is your preference. The rainbow can cover majority of the bottom skirt, or a small amount.
- On pattern-making paper, draw a straight line of the diagonal and width measurement, creating a block.
- Draw straight lines and divide into three sections, varying widths to give a rainbow effect.
- For the ‘rainbow’ curve design line, use the straight lines as your guide and carefully draw a curved line. Do this for the rest of the rainbow sections.
- Cut the rainbow appliqué pattern out of your fashion fabric.
- Stitch all three sections of the appliqué at the side seams, right sides together 3/8".
- Now the rainbow appliqué is assembled, turn under the raw edges 3/8" on both sides and press.
- Place the rainbow appliqué on the front of the dress, stitch in place.
JOANN HACKS:
- Sewing inner and outer curves together can be made easier by stay stitching and clipping curves when needed.
