SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/2 yd white print fabric
- 1/2 yd white solid fabric
- 1/2 yd blue fabric
- 1/2 yd yellow print fabric
- 1/2 yd gray fabric
- 1 1/2 yds white solid for background
- 1/2 yd fabric for binding
- 1/4 yd paper backed fusible web
- 50" x 50" piece fabric for backing
- 50" x 50" batting
- Template plastic
- Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
- Basic sewing supplies
- Iron and pressing surface
- Sewing machine
- Finished at 47" x 47"
DIRECTIONS:
- Use accurate 1/4" seams throughout. Read all instructions before starting project.
- Using Diagram A, cut diamond shape from template plastic.
- Cut 16 diamond shapes each from white print, white solid, blue, and yellow print.
- From gray cut 8 diamond shapes.
- Following fusible web instructions, fuse an 8" x 14" piece to an 8" x 14" piece of gray fabric. Cut 2- 6" squares. Cut each square once diagonally. Set aside.
- Using Diagram B lay pieces out. Work with one nine-patch diamond section at a time and stitch pieces together as shown. Press seams as you sew.
- When all 8 sections are completed, sew sections together stopping 1/4" from the star corners. Press.
- From the white background fabric cut 6 - 15" squares. Cut 2 of the squares in half diagonally for side triangle pieces.
- Sew squares into the corners and triangles into the sides. Press.
- Following Diagram C arrange gray triangles in star corners. Press and applique to quilt top.
- Sandwich backing, batting and top. Quilt as desired.
- Cut 5 strips 2 1/2" x WOF. Stitch strips together, press in half lengthwise. Sew binding to quilt front. Turn binding to back of quilt and slip stitch.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- By stopping your stitching 1/4" from the star corner, it will be easier to sew your background pieces into place in the corners.
