Lounge Chair Cushion Cover

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Sewing machine
• Rotary cutter & cutting board or scissors
• Sewing notions
• Iron
• Invisible zippers, 20-22" (2)
• Elastic, knit, 1"x 3 yds (1)
• Bias tape, extra-wide double-fold, 3 yds (1)
• Upholstery fabric, 2 1/2 yds
• Foam cushions, 2"x 21 1/2"x 32 1/2", 2"x 21 1/2"x 40 1/2" (1 each)

DIRECTIONS:

1/2" SA (seam allowance)

1. Cut panels: 1" is added to each cushion measurement for SA.
2. Line up pattern of fabric centered down length of front, back and side panels.

Front & back panels
2 @ 22 1/2"x 33 1/2", back
2 @ 22 1/2"x 41 1/2", seat

Side panels
2 @ 3"x 41 1/2", seat
2 @ 3"x 33 1/2", back
2 @ 3"x 22 1/2", seat and back ends

Zipper panels
4 @ 2"x 22 1/2"
Attach ties and elastic to one back panel:

3. Cut Bias tape, 2 @ 25" long. Fold raw end in 1/2", press. Sew close to edges along length. Fold in half. Pin folded edge of tape to RS of back on long sides, 3" from one short side. Tails pointing in. Repeat for second tape on opposite side of back panel. Pin the tails to the center of the panel to avoid catching in hems.
4. Cut one piece of elastic, 23" long. On RS of back panel, same panel as ties, pin ends of elastic 8" down from short end of panel, extending past the raw edges of long sides of panel. Sew 1/4" from raw edges of panel to secure the ties and elastic.
Zipper panels:

5. Take two zipper panels RST sew 1/2" baste stitch. Press seam out. Lay zipper on back of panel, zipper teeth lined up with seam. Sew zipper to panel. Flip panel and remove baste stitch. Repeat.
6. Sew together one back (without elastic and ties) and one seat panel on short end. Press seam open. Line up zipper panels RST on WS of panels, SA on top of open seam of back and seat. Stitch in place starting and ending 1/2" in from ends.
7. Sew together two sides and one end panel RST to back (with elastic and ties). Sew together two sides and one end panel RST to seat panel. Pin and sew corners of side panels.
8. Pin panels, with sides attached, RST with joined seat and back panel. Center will be open. Zipper panels will be on the opposite side. Sew.
9. Clip corners to reduce fabric bulk.
10. Turn RSO.
11. Open zippers. Turn back panel through zipper opening to sew zipper panel to back panel. Repeat for seat panel.
12. Remove pins from ties.
