DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.- Cover your work surface with a disposable covering and fill a glass or cup with water.
- Cut a 9" x 12" sheet of watercolor paper to measure 9" x 8.5" in size
- Using the provided outline, freehand draw the outline using a graphite pencil or use the provided outline as a guide. The outline can also be transferred onto the working paper by using a lightbox or a well-lit window.
- To mix the 3 paint colors, use a #6 brush as if it were a spoon. Place 12 scoops of water into 3 wells. Mix the following colors into those wells until you have an equal paint to water ratio for each color:
- Green: Hooker's Green Light only
- Light Green: 1/8 teaspoon Cerulean Blue Hue and 1/4 teaspoon Lemon Yellow
- Middle Green: 1/8 teaspoon Hooker's Green Light and 1/4 teaspoon Lemon Yellow
- The paint will be applied in this project without touching it to the paper. When applying paint, hold the brush 6-12" from the paper at all times. The paint can be both flicked on and dropped on. To flick the paint, hold the brush with your non-dominant hand at a downward angle with the bristles pointed toward the paper. Then, pull the bristle back with the fingers on your dominant hand and then let go of the bristles to launch the paint toward the watercolor paper and then repeat. This flicking motion will create several small dots on the paper. Move the brush around to launch these dots onto different parts of the paper. To drop the paint, load the brush with a large amount of paint, and then move the brush in an up and down vertical motion over the paper to drop large dots onto the paper.
- Use the above technique to apply both the Light Green and Middle Green colors to the watercolor paper. Apply as much of each color or as little as desired but be aware that the paint will spread quite a bit as it dries.
- Allow the paint to only partially dry before moving on to the next step.
- Apply Green to the paper using the same technique as when the first layer was applied. If desired, adjustments can be made as the paint dries by repeating the process from this step and the last step with all three colors.
- Allow the paint to fully dry before moving on to the next step.
- Paint on the outline of the clover leaves using Green. Allow the paint to fully dry before moving on to the next step.
- Apply Fourth Layer of Paint.
- Carefully trace over the lettering with the black Promarker.
