DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATION:sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
NOTES:
Stocking is worked in one piece beginning at the toe.
The foot and the leg are worked in joined and turned rnds.
The heel is worked in rows and shaped with increases and decreases.
The cuff is worked in joined rnds with the RS always facing.
STOCKING:
Work begins at the toe of the Stocking, then the foot is worked in joined and turned rounds.
Adjustable Ring
Wrap yarn around index finger. Insert hook into ring on finger, yarn over and draw up a loop. Carefully slip ring from finger and work the stitches of Set up Rnd (in pattern, below) into the ring. When Set up Rnd is complete, gently but firmly, pull tail to tighten center of ring.
Set up Rnd: Ch 1, 4 sc in ring, sl st in beg sc to join.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, turn, work 2 sc in each sc around, sl st in beg sc to join - you'll have 8 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, *work 2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around, sl st in beg sc to join - you'll have 12 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, *work 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * around, sl st in beg sc to join - you'll have 16 sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, turn, *work 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * around, sl st in beg sc to join - you'll have 20 sc.
Rnds 5-11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc around, sl st in beg sc to join.
Shape Heel
Heel is worked back and forth in rows over half of the sts, leaving the remaining sts unworked.
Row 12: Ch 1, turn, sc in each of next 10 sts, leave remaining sts unworked.
Heel decreases
Row 13: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 6 sts, sc2tog - you'll have 8 sts remaining for heel.
Row 14: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts, sc2tog - you'll have 6 sts for heel.
Row 15: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts, sc2tog - you'll have 4 sts for heel.
Heel increases
Row 17: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first stitch, sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last stitch - you'll have 6 sts for heel.
Row 18: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 4 sts, sc2tog - you'll have 8 sts for heel.
Row 19: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 6 sts, sc2tog - you'll have 10 sts for heel.
Fasten off.
Fold heel, lining up side edges.
With A threaded into blunt needle, seam side edges of heel.
Shape Leg
From RS, join A with a slip st in last st of Row 12 of heel.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st in beg sc to join.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, sl st in beg sc to join.
Rep Rnd 2 until piece measures about 13 1/2" from lower edge of heel.
Fasten off.
Cuff
Cuff is worked in joined rounds with RS always facing.
From RS, join B with a slip st in any st around top edge of Stocking.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc 2 together, sc in each st around, sl st in beg sc to join.
Rnds 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st in beg sc to join.
Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Hanging loop
Cut a strand of either yarn as desired. Fold strand into a loop and tie to top of Stocking.
Weave in ends.
