SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Singer 420XL Embroidery Machine
  • 1/3 yd Cotton fabric
  • 1/3 yd Tear Away stabilizer
  • Assorted rayon embroidery threads
  • Bobbin thread
  • Air erasable fabric marker
  • Ruler
  • Heart template
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Wooden embroidery hoop

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Set the machine up for regular sewing, not hooped embroidery.  Use bobbin thread in the bobbin and embroidery thread in color of choice on top.
  2. Draw the heart on the fabric using the template and fabric marker.  Draw a center line from the valley of the heart to the point.  Draw a line 2” down from the top of the right side of the heart perpendicular to the center line.
  3. Place stabilizer under marked fabric and pin in place.
  4. Starting with stitch #17 stitch on the left side of the vertical line from top to bottom. Select stitch #12 and with the same color thread stitch across the horizontal line.  Change thread color and sew stitch  #10 to the left of the original vertical line and stitch #16 below the horizontal stitch line.  Change thread and continue working in the same manner sewing both the vertical and horizontal line.

 

  1. The stitches used for the inside of the heart are as follows:
    1. Vertical left to right: 20, 13, 6, 26, 24, 15, 22, 27, 10, 17
    2. Horizontal top to bottom: 20, 6, 19, 17, 10, 12, 16, 25, 6, 13, 26, 15, 16, 24, 22, 27, 10

  1. Trim loose thread ends then stitch #19 around the outside edge.

  1. Tear off the stabilizer and place embroidery in the hoop
  2. Trim fabric as needed.
