Do not tie knots tightly; doing so will alter finished measurements
Cut one knot-bearing cord 70 (80)" [178 (203) cm] long in A. Cut 11 (17) knotting cords 36 (40)" [91.5 (101.5) cm] long in A. Cut 12 (18) knotting cords 36 (40)" [91.5 (101.5) cm] long in B.
Place knot-bearing cord flat on table, folding to form an 18 (20)" [45.5 (51) cm] overlap.
Working over both cords as shown in diagram, work 5 Lark's Head knots, working first knot with a knotting cord in B, and then alternating between A and B.
Take long end of knot-bearing cord and thread it through loop as shown in diagram. Draw tight to form circle. Shorter end of knot-bearing cord will now be used as a knotting cord.
Holding knot-bearer cord horizontally and in front of knotting cords, work a Horizontal Double Half Hitch using short end of knot-bearing cord as knotting cord. Continue working Horizontal Double Half Hitch knots using each of next 2 knotting cords. With a new knotting cord in corresponding color, work a Lark's Head knot around knotting cord. Continue working Horizontal Double Half Hitch knots around knot-bearing cord using existing knotting cords, adding in new knotting cords using a Lark's Head knot in appropriate shade whenever a gap appears.
When adding in new knotting cords, place new cords in between 2 existing knotting cords of same shade. This will maintain tidy lines within colorwork.
Continue as established until base measures 5 (10)" [12.5 (25.5) cm] diameter, working Horizontal Double Half Hitch knots using existing knotting cords, and adding in new knotting cords as needed. Once completed, there should be approx 47 (71) knotting cord tails in Bowl - 23 (35) in A, 24 (36) in B.
Working only with existing knotting cords, continue working Horizontal Double Half Hitch knots around circumference of work. When gaps in work appear, pull knot-bearing cord tight to draw knots together, forming lip of bowl. Continue in this manner until lip of bowl is approx 1 1/2 (2)" [4 (5) cm] tall.
Using yarn needle, weave tail of knot-bearing cord into back of work. Trim all knotting cords to 1" [2.5 cm].
Un-ply each fringe strand by twisting strand clockwise until plies loosen, separating plies from the cut end up to knot. Comb fringe and trim evenly.
