SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Macrame Cord
- Scissors
- Tie Dying Kit
- Several Large Bowls
- 2" Metal Ring
DIRECTIONS:
Macrame Pattern #1:
- Use scissors to cut six 12' pieces, one 6' piece, and one 24" pieces of macramé cord.
- Keep the 6' piece of cord aside, this will be used for the drying process after dying the cord.
- Soak the other pieces of macramé cord in water and squeeze out excess water.
- Follow directions on tie dying kit and add water to the dye bottles.
- Place cord in a large bowl and spread the colored dye on the cord, making sure to drench the entire cord in the dye. Dye each of the cords a different color if desired. Soak the cords in the dye for several hours, then rinse in cold water and squeeze excess water out.
- Tie the extra non-dyed 6' piece of cord up outside or over top of a drop cloth and hang the dyed cords up to dry. Allow several hours to dry.
- Gather the 6 pieces of 12' cord and loop the metal ring to the center of the cords and fold them in half so there are 12 total cords to work with.
- Using one of the 24" pieces of cord, tie a loop knot right below the metal ring to secure the cords together.
- Gather 4 cords and tie 10-15 half square knots to create a spiral. Repeat for the other 2 groups of 4 cords.
- Leave a 3" gap and tie a square knot, repeat for each of the cord groups.
- Create a crossover square knot using the 2 right cords from the first group and the 2 left cords from the adjacent group, repeat for the other cord groups.
- Leave a 3" gap and repeat previous step to create another row of square knots.
- Leave a 3" gap and use the remaining 24" cord to tie a loop knot at the bottom to secure the ends together. Trim the excess cord so the cords are even in length and fray the ends if desired.
