SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1 Large Skein Yarn
- 1 Faux Pumpkin
- Straight Pins
- Scissors
- Optional: Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks
DIRECTIONS:
- Tie yarn in a loop that will fit on top of the pumpkin, around the stem. Pin yarn loop with straight pins in several places. Do not push pins in all the way or yarn will slip over the top of the pins.
- Depending on circumference of pumpkin, cut several 3ft lengths of yarn. Attach yarn lengths to yarn loop using lark's head knots. (Fold each length of yarn in half. Push looped end under yarn ring pinned to top of pumpkin. Feed ends of yarn length through the top loop and pull snugly. Repeat around whole pumpkin.)
- Two long pieces of yarn will hang from each lark's head knot. Begin weaving by taking the right side and left side of two adjacent lark's head knot ends. Cross right side over left side. Pull left side up, over and through right side. Pull taut. Repeat process again, creating 2 half hitch knots.
- Continue knotting every 2 pieces of yarn as described around entire pumpkin. After finishing a row of knots, pin them in place and make another ring of knots. Continue this process until weaving reaches bottom of the pumpkin. To finish, pull loose ends of weaving together under the bottom of the pumpkin and tie off into one or several knots.
- Create tassels by folding approx. 6ft of yarn in half several times. Gather yarn and tie into a loose knot. Push knot to top of yarn bundle, until it tightens into a tassel head shape. Cut tassel bottom to desired length.
- Pin tassels onto pumpkin at the base of the knot, so that dangling tassel strings hide the pin. Create and attach remaining tassels, but do not trim the ends until all tassels are pinned on. Using the original tassel as a guide, trim tassel bases.
