Macrame Wall Hanging

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Macrame cord
• Scissors
• Wooden dowel (about 24")
• Assorted floral picks
• Floral wire
• Wire cutters
• Hot glue gun

DIRECTIONS:

1. Use scissors to cut (20) 6' pieces of macramé cord. Cut one 24" piece of cord to use as the wall hanging piece.
2. Attach each end of the 36" cord to the wooden dowel and secure by tying a knot.
3. Begin adding each of the 20 pieces of macramé cord to the wooden dowel by tying lark’s head knots. Be sure to center the cords on the dowel and pull them tight.
4. Make a row of square knots across the first row.
5. Create another row of square knots in between the previous row. Continue making rows of square knots, making less square knots in each new row until there is one centered square knot in the final row.
6. About 3" below the centered square not, begin creating a row of double half hitch knots in a V shape, lining up level with the edge of square knots.
7. Make another row of double half hitch knots in a V shape about 1.5" below the previous row.
8. Separate the cords into groups of 4 and create spiral knots by making a chain of 6-8 half knots.
9. Make another row of double half hitch knots along the edge of the spiral knots.
10. Trim the cord at the bottom to be a V shape but allow the different strands to be uneven.
11. Fray the ends of the cord using fingertips.
12. Attach pieces of greenery at the top of the macramé wall hanging using floral wire. Use wire cutters to trim a small piece of wire and secure it to the wooden dowel.
13. Use hot glue gun to attach flowers and other small stems along the top of the macramé.

JOANN HACKS:

• Use a comb or brush to fray the ends of the macrame cord to make it extra fluffy.
