Good Starter Machine
All things considered, this little machine is a great starter for upper-elementary-aged kids. Very easy to set up and get going--for the adult supervising, it's a lot like your home sewing machine. A few things to be aware of: it does not come with a foot pedal(speed is toggled with a High/Low switch; sewing is started and stopped with On/Off button) or power cord (battery powered) but you can order them online; there is no reverse; you can't change the stitch or stitch length. It still manages to be a little powerhouse. We sewed through very thick flannel doubled-over without issue.

Fun to start out with
I think most of starting something new is developing the confidence in it. This is a great way to do that. There are plenty of YouTube’s for how to set it up and there are quite a few easy starter ideas. We did an easy flap purse first and then a simple doll and most recently a zippered pencil case. I have really enjoyed the one on one time spent doing it. When I told friends and family we were doing this they unloaded a good many fabric scraps on us so we have just been using those. I do recommend buying the cord that goes with it bc the batteries died once already mid project and of course I didn’t have extra batteries. I’m a complete beginner mom so don’t be intimidated!

Will be returning this item. Very hard for an8 year old to operate.
The instructions should be included with the item. Kids shouldn't have to rely on the internet for instructions, that's why this was obtained to get them away from the computer.

cute but patience required
the sewing machine is cute and a good size for my 7 year old. i had a hard time figuring it out and got frustrated with threading the bobbin as with most sewing machines so i hope it doesn’t deter us both from using it again. she did make a pillow for her friend!

My granddaughter’s first sewing machine
My granddaughter wanted a sewing kit for her 7th birthday so I went to Joanne’s and one of the clerk’s was SO helpful in showing me various ideas. I landed on this sewing machine and my granddaughter (and her parents) were tickled. We made her first pillow that night, and her 3yoa brother also sat on my lap as “we” made his first pillow. I’m looking forward to helping her learn to see (if I can get her to follow directions!)

Too confusing, would never sew properly
Bought for my granddaughter for Christmas. We never could get it to sew properly. We re-threaded the needle and yhe bobbin. Adjusted the tension tighter and looser and couldn't sew 3 stitches without it stopping. I have sewn for years so I feel I knew what I was doing. Granddaughter was disappointed. I personally would not recommend this product.

This is the best starter machine I have found for my 9-year old!
This is for a Christmas gift, and I can already see the reaction! My girl loves to make doll dresses, and this is the best progression from hand sewing going into using a machine.

More than a toy and an easy way to learn.
This sewing machine is a perfect starter for someone who just has the desire to learn how to sew. It is difficult in that there is no pressure foot but it gets the job done by pushing a button which can be locked in the on position. My granddaughter is trying to sew everything including a sleeping bag!!!!

Great beginner kids!
I am so excited that one of my 9 year old twins has shown and expressed interest in learning to sew! I taught her how to hand stitch and she fell in love immediately! (She sewed like 20 little pouches in a night!) I bought her this beginners learn to sew sewing machine for starters b/c I know how quickly she can lose interest in things. I hope she doesn’t but either way this is a great first step before buying her a more expensive Singer beginners machine. This, along with the ton of other stuff I got at Joann Fabrics to go along w it is by far my favorite gift I got any of my kids this year!

It’s alright for a young child learning
I had decided to get this because my grandchildren live to see and they can only use my machine s close supervision. I played with it first and did not like it at all. It is hard to see to thread because no light. It does not have a foot pedal. It’s very cheap like. You can’t back stitch. The foot pedal I feel is necessary. But I thought I’d let my 9 yr old grandchild try it out. I showed her how to thread and use and she had a ball making some Barbie things such as clothes and pillow and blanket. She pretty much did things on her own. She usually will hand sew but she really liked the machine.

Avoid buying if you want something easy
It is not user friendly for kids or anyone. It works as long as you are pullong the fabric at a very specific pace and you dont stop or it bunches up and jams. Or if you thread it took short it jams. Or if you stop mid way, it jams or if you pull to slow it jams or pull too fast it jams. Its not friendly for a child at all and wish i cound return it.
