Metallic Fall Leaves Tree Art

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paint Set Metallic
  • Liquitex Basics 4 oz Acrylic Paints 1PK, Mars Black
  • Liquitex Freestyle Detail Round Brush, Size 4
  • Liquitex Freestyle Large Scale Paddle Brush, Size 2, or Similar
  • 9"x 12" Canvas (pre-primed)
  • Pencil
  • Palette Paper
  • Paper Towel
  • Container of Water
  • Optional: Gloves, Hairdryer

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Protect your work surface with paper or plastic (recommended) and assemble supplies & tools.
  2. Squeeze out about 1 teaspoon of Iridescent White onto palette paper.
  3. Use the paddle brush to apply the Iridescent White to the entire canvas surface.
  4. Allow it to become touch dry; approximately 15 minutes.
  5. Tip: a hairdryer can be used to speed drying. Keep the dryer moving and keep it about 1 foot above the painting surface.
  6. Use the pencil to sketch out the tree shape or silhouette.
  7. Squeeze out about 1 teaspoon of the Mars Black onto the palette paper.
  8. Use the round brush to paint the tree.
  9. Allow it to become touch dry; approximately 5-10 minutes.
  10. Next, squeeze out about 1/4 teaspoon of each of the metallic colors, except for the Iridescent White.
  11. Use the round brush to paint on the leaves one metallic color at a time. Be sure to clean the brush in between each color.
  12. Space the leaves around the tree branches and allow some of the leaves to be on top of the branches or trunk.
  13. Continue until all the metallic colors are used.
  14. Choose 2 or 3 different metallic colors and apply a few leaves falling from the tree to the ground.
  15. Make adjustments and final touches as desired.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Don't forget to clean the brush off in between adding new colors to the canvas.
