SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Cutting board, 24"x 36"
  • Rotary cutter
  • Metal yardstick
  • Ribbon, satin, 1 1/2", 1 roll per 4 chairs
  • Ribbon, satin, 7/8", 1 roll per 4-5 chairs
  • Ribbon, sheer, 5/8", 1 roll per 4-5 chairs
  • Floral wire or hot glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Naturally wired heavy brown floral wire, 1 roll
  • Pliers, needle nose
  • Mini wreath, 1 per chair

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Line up factory fold edge of tulle on 23" grid of cutting board. Cut panels 23"x 35" on fold. Finish size of panels 23"x 70". Cut two panels for each chair.
  2. Open one panel to full length. Line up 23" width on grid of cutting board. Pin 1 1/2" ribbon, folded under 1/2" at end, 10 3/4" from both sides of tulle. Pin every 3"- 4" hand pressing tulle and ribbon to keep both flat. Continue down length of tulle. Fold under end 1/2". Sew down both sides of ribbon close to edges with wide stitching. Repeat. One ribbon panel per chair. One panel without ribbon per chair.
  3. Cut one 2' piece of heavy brown floral wire for each mini wreath. Bend over both cut ends 1/2" with pliers to eliminate sharp ends. Find the center of the wire. Hold the wire center over the front center of the wreath. Spiral one end of wire around the grapevine portion of the wreath (take care not to wrap around any of the greenery). The end should extend out from the back of the wreath. Repeat for the other end of the wire on the opposite side. This will be the top and bottom center of the wreath. Set aside.
  4. Cut one each of 7/8" and 5/8" ribbon for each chair 48"- 54" long. Layer and knot together at center. Tie a bow with 2 1/2" loops. Cut an 8" length of floral wire. Twist tie the center of wire around the side of the center of the bow with tails extending out the back of the bow. Wrap the wire around the grapevine of the wreath on top of one of the heavy wire connections. Alternate method: hot glue the bow on top of one spiral of the heavy brown wire. The tails of the bow should extend away from the wreath. This will be the bottom center of the wreath. Tuck the wire ends into the back of the grapevine of the wreath to prevent snags on the tulle.
  5. Layer one panel of tulle with ribbon over one panel of tulle without ribbon. Fold panels in half on 23" width. Lay over the back of chair. Adjust length so the lower edges of the panels meet. Grasp a section of tulle close to the top of the chair back. Spiral the top section of heavy wire on the wreath around this bundled section of tulle. Smooth the bundled tulle down to the location of the lower heavy wire on the wreath. Spiral the lower wire around the tulle. Tuck both ends of wire into the center of the wreath.
  6. Fluff the tulle.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use small amounts of water spray to remove static from tulle.
  • The top sides of the tulle may be wrapped slightly over the sides of the chair back to help keep it centered.
