Modern Figure Painting

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Canvas
• Acrylic paint: brown, tan, grey, light grey, cream, white, black (flesh tones and neutrals)
• Assorted brushes
• Pencil

DIRECTIONS:

1. Using a pencil draw out the figure onto your canvas. If you need a visual you can pose in front of a mirror or get someone to sit for you to reference.
2. Paint the background loosely with light colors on the top 2/3 and dark grey on the bottom 1/3. This will add a surface to ground the figure.
3. Paint in your figure with flesh tones, use a variety of flesh tones to create a diverse look with depth. Mix black to add shadows and more depth.
4. Erase any visible guidelines after the paint dries.
