SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 6 assorted artificial flowers - suggestions:
- Anthuriums
- Orchids
- Dark purple lilacs
- Unusual flower shapes
- Wire cutters
- Floral tape
- Scrap piece of green floral foam to fit opening of vase
DIRECTIONS:
- When you start to design a modern floral design, you are trying to create a striking silhouette. To do this you use each flower to its fullest shape and only use a few flowers.
- Start with your longest or tallest flower and place it in your left hand. Add to it your next tallest flower. Make sure you keep them not bunched together, but open. Keep adding the next flowers to be about halfway down the arrangement in your hand. You will need two stems. Add your shortest flower to the bunch and leaning to the left. Add a longer stem to hand down towards the right. The entire time this bush is in your left hand.
- While still holding the bouquet, take the wire and tightly wrap it around the base where you are holding it together. Snip off the end of your wire once you twist the wire ends together to make a tight bunch.
- Insert the green floral foam into the base, allowing the bunch to slide into the vase behind the floral foam.
- Take your hot glue gun and glue all around the base of the bouquet and the green floral foam in the opening of the vase.
JOANN HACKS:
- Pay attention to the overall shape of the design. You want each flower to stand out for its beauty and shape.
