- Cut a 4"x 41" length of fabric. With pencil, make lines down the long side of the fabric 4" in, 17" in, 18" in, 23" in, 24" in, 37" in. Make a mark at 2" on the short side of both ends.
- Mark the V-shape of the edge by drawing a line from the center of the short edge to the 4" marks on the edges of the long side, repeat on other edge.
- Thin the center of the fabric for the tie by drawing a line 1" in from the 18" mark to the 23" mark. Then, make a diagonal line from the outside of the fabric to the 1" mark from 17" to 18", and then from 24" to 23".
- Cut at all drawn lines. Then repeat for second contrast-patterned fabric.
