SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Simplicity® 8856
- Main Fabric, 1/2 the Required Fabric for Dress (see pattern back)
- 9 Patch Block, 1/4yd Each of 6 or 8 Contrasting Fabrics
- 1/4yd White Fabric for Center of 9 Patch Block
- Required Notions for Dress (see pattern back)
- Matching Thread
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Rotary Cutter & Mat
- Ruler
- Quilter’s Square
DIRECTIONS:
- Separate needed pattern pieces.
- From main fabric, cut out pockets and interfacing.
- Use the rotary cutter and ruler to cut remaining main fabric into 6 1/2" squares.
- For the 9 Patch: From the white fabric, cut 3 strips 2 1/2" x WOF.
- From the contrasting fabrics, cut two strips 2 1/2" x WOF.
- Stitch a contrast strip to each side of the white strip with a 1/4" seam allowance.
- Press seams away from center white strip.
- Cut into 2 1/2" strips.
- Stitch three contrasting strips together with a 1/4" seam allowance.
- Press seams toward the center strip.
- Cut into 2 1/2" strips.
- Stitch strips together into a 9 patch block. (see photo)
- Press seams away from center white square.
- Note: It is important that the 9 patch is 6 1/2", use quilter’s square to trim as necessary.
- Repeat with remaining fabric, making as many squares as needed create needed yardage.
- Lay out main fabric squares and 9 patch squares as desired.
- Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew squares together into required fabric amount (see back of pattern for yardage).
- Fold fabric in half lengthwise and follow pattern directions to cut out dress.
- Follow the pattern instructions for sewing the dress, using main fabric for pockets and interfacing.
