SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 24"-36" tension rod
- 3yds black sequin furry fabric
- 12"x 54" fleece fabric: orange
- Felt: purple, red, natural stone
- 2 XL wiggle eyes
- Black hair trim
- Light orange yarn
- Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
- Aleene's craft glue
- Recycled cardboard
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- Set the tension rod to the size of the door opening. Glue the short end of the sequin furry fabric around the tension rod and continue the entire length. Cut the length of the furry fabric to fit the width of the doorway. Trim the fabric to appear as drips are coming down from the top.
- Using the craft glue to attach the black trim fluffy around each wiggle eye on the backside starting at 10:00 to 2:00 on each one (this is to give the appearance of eye lashes, which is why is doesn't go all the way around). Loop the orange yarn hanging down around the bottom of the wiggle eyes and attach on the backside of the eyes. Cut small pieces from the purple felt about 1"x 3" for the bottom lashes on the wiggle eyes behind the orange yarn.
- Make two horns out of the natural stone felt. Glue one side of the horn shut, and stuff it with felt scraps to help it feel full and dimensional. Glue the horns on the tension rod behind the wiggle eyes at the top.
- Take a 12"x 54" piece of the orange fleece and fold it in half lengthwise. Glue the ends together on the length of the fleece. Find the center of the fleece fold and attach it behind the sequin fabric on the tension rod at the head. Around the head area, snip the folded fabric to make loops to appear like hair.
- Bunch the orange fleece at the ends of the tension rod to look like arms. Similar to the horns, make two claws with fingernails using the purple and red felt. Attach them on the front of the tension rod to make the claws look like they are coming over the rod.
- To enhance the design, make an additional sleeve by folding and gluing another piece of the orange fleece and attaching it to the rod behind one of the claws to look like the arms are climbing over the rod.
- Flip the monster over and glue the recycled cardboard to the back of the entire head to support it and keep the head from flipping forward. Additional 2"x 14" cardboard strips on each side of the head going the length of the monster will help stabilize it.
JOANN HACKS:
- When gluing the fleece or felt, hot glue works great, but once you put the two pieces together, apply pressure to bond the fabric together.
