DIRECTIONS:
CHANGING PAD COVER:- Lay mattress pad on chosen fabric and trace and cut the fabric 4" larger than the mattress all the way around.
- Press the edges under twice to hem (1/4") and then stitch around to hold.
- Press the sides under once more about 1/2" to accommodate the elastic.
- Stitch this fold down close to the edge of the 1/2" to make sure there is a wide enough opening to thread through the elastic. You will notice gathering and folding as you sew around the circle. This is normal and won't show since it is under the mattress pad. Leave a 2" opening in the circle.
- Use a safety pin to thread through your elastic.
- When you have successfully threaded your elastic through the entire sheet, stitch or triple-tie the elastic together to create the circle and hold.
- Stitch along the 2" opening to close.
- Cut out 2 pieces of your desired fabric or fabrics to 30"x 25" for the front and back of the blanket.
- Lay them together with the right sides facing out and pin along the edges.
- Stitch around all four edges with a 1/4" seam allowance to keep the fabrics together before you attach the binding.
- Attach the 3 binding strips together to form one long strip. This is done by stitching them together along the short edges. Do this by laying them in an L shape with the right sides together and stitching a diagonal line from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of the overlapping section. Press seams open. Do this again to attach the third strip.
- Fold the binding strip in half lengthwise with the wrong sides together and press.
- To attach the binding to your quilt, line up the raw edges of the top of your quilt with the raw edges of your folded binding piece (right sides together). Leave approx. 4" of the binding undone as you start so that when you finish stitching around the perimeter you can tuck some of the excess binding into this opening and do a final stitch over it.
- When you get to a corner, stop 1/4" away from the edge and sew off the corner diagonally. Take the quilt off the machine and rotate. Fold the binding away from the quilt in line with the edge and back down creating a tuck in the fabric underneath. This will create the mitered edge on the front of the quilt. Starting from this next edge, stitch down until you reach the next corner. Repeat for all 4 corners until you reach the 4" of undone binding. Fold over this 4" piece approx. 1 1/2" and tuck in your ending tail of fabric (trim this if necessary before you tuck it in). Stitch it closed.
- Fold the binding around to the back of the quilt and use your needle and thread to do an invisible stitch around the perimeter. All raw edges will now hide and the blanket is finished.

- Cut out and press your 12"x 18" and 10"x 12" background fabrics.
- Trace desired shapes onto the smooth side of the fusible interfacing, making sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for use as you go through the process.
- Lay the interfacing onto the back of your chosen fabric for each shape and press until it is adhered. Let cool.
- Very carefully cut out the shapes and peel off the backing.
- Lay the pieces onto your background fabric and once they are in the desired location press until adhered.
