- Circular knitting needle size 6 (4.25 mm), 36" long or longer
- SIZE:
- About 30"x 68" at longest and widest
- GAUGE:
- 18 sts + 26 rows = about 4" in St st (k on RS, p on WS).
- BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATIONS:skp (slip, knit, pass over) Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch 1 st decreased.
yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.
NOTES:
Shawl is worked in one piece, beginning at neck, in easy stitch patterns.
Increases are worked on right side rows to shape the Shawl.
A circular needle is used to accommodate the number of stitches. Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working with straight needles.
SHAWL:
Cast on 5 sts.
Knit 1 row.
Row 1 (RS): K2, yo, place marker (pm), k1, pm, yo, k2 you will have 7 sts in this row.
Row 2: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.
Row 3: K2, yo, k to marker, yo, slip marker (sm), k1, sm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 11 sts.
Row 4: K2, p to last 2 sts slipping markers as you come to them, k2.
Garter Stitch Section
Row 5 (RS): K2, yo, k to marker, yo, slip marker (sm), k1, sm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 4 sts increased.
Row 6: K to marker, sm, p1, sm, k to end of row.
Rows 7-12: Rep Rows 5 and 6 until you have 27 sts, end with a rep of Row 6 as the last row you work.
Stockinette Stitch Section
Row 13 (RS): K2, yo, k to marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 4 sts increased.
Row 14: K2, p to last 2 sts slipping markers as you come to them, k2.
Rows 15-26: Rep Rows 13 and 14 until you have 55 sts, end with a rep of Row 14 as the last row you work.
Eyelet Section
Row 27 (RS): K2, yo, k to marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to last 2 sts, yo, k2 59 sts.
Row 28: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.
Row 29: Rep Row 27 63 sts.
Row 30: K2, *skp, yo; rep from * to 1 st before marker, k1, sm, k1, sm, k1, **yo, skp; rep from ** to last 2 sts, k2.
Rows 31 and 32: Rep Rows 27 and 28 67 sts.
Rows 33-38: Rep Rows 13 and 14 until you have 79 sts, end with a rep of Row 14 as the last row you work.
Rep Rows 27-38 103 sts when rep is complete.
Rep Rows 27-32 115 sts when rep is complete.
Rep Rows 13 and 14 until you have 147 sts, end with a rep of Row 14 as the last row you work.
Rep Rows 5 and 6 until you have 155 sts, end with a rep of Row 6 as the last row you work.
Rep Rows 13 and 14 until you have 187 sts, end with a rep of Row 14 as the last row you work.
Rep Rows 27-38 twice 235 sts.
Rep Rows 13 and 14 until you have 279 sts, end with a rep of Row 14 as the last row you work.
