SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Stick/Branch (with a Y shape)
  • Scissors
  • Assorted yarn
  • Assorted beads
  • Plastic Yarn Sewing Needle
  • Feathers
  • Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Stick

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Using yarn, create a weaving loom on a stick/small branch. Attach the end of a spool of yarn to the Y section of a branch and tie a knot.
  2. Wrap the yarn around the stick and across the Y section, wrapping the yarn back and forth to create a grid of horizontal lines.
  3. Once you have created a loom structure on the stick, tie off the end of the string to secure to the stick. Use a small amount of hot glue to secure the yarn to the stick.
  4. Use scissors to cut 36" long pieces of several different colors of yarn.
  5. Attach the first color to the bottom of the loom by looping the yarn through the loom and tying a knot to attach it to the loom.
  6. Use a plastic yarn sewing needle on the end of the yarn to help make weaving easier.
  7. Weave the yarn in and out of the loom grid vertically, making sure to pull the yarn tight and push the row tightly toward the edge of the stick.
  8. Create several rows with the same color, then tie the end of the yarn to the bottom edge of the loom, trimming the excess yarn with scissors.
  9. Repeat this process with several different colors of yarn, making the sections different widths and colors until the entire loom is filled.
  10. Add additional embellishments to the stick by wrapping yarn in striped colors along the base of the stick, add feathers using hot glue, and string beads onto the yarn.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs additional instructions Love the project - however, something like this needs more detailed instructions, as mentioned by the other reviewer. I'd love to share this project with some kiddos, but I don't know how to weave and use a loom as the instructions suggest. Also need info on adding beads. A short video would be helpful, too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Better instructions Your “how to” is too basic. How do you make a weaving loom? Where is the first step on weaving? You assume that children automatically know how to do this? You have beads woven into the design. How are beads incorporated and at what point? The project looks fun, but the instructions are very deficient.
