Shawl is worked back and forth in rows, from one long edge across to the other long edge.
Multiple crochet sts are used to make the Shawl - but all of the sts are easy!
This design begins with a row of foundation half double crochet (Fhdc). If you prefer, you can beg with a traditional foundation ch and a row of half double crochet sts, as follows: Ch 197, hdc in 2nd ch from hook (skipped ch 1 does not count as a st) and in each ch across - you will have 196 hdc in this row. Proceed to Row 1 instruction.

Rows 1-5: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, cross-dc across - you will have 98 cross-dc in this row.
